Well, Paris Hilton has done her time (all 28 days of it OMG *rolls eyes*) and is out of the pokey.

Just received my order of Privilege and Pruno, so here are my thoughts.

Limited Edition scents, only offered during the length of Paris Hilton's jail sentence. Part of the proceeds went to aid California women's shelters.

Privilege

Polished party-girl sleaze. This is a shameless scent, devoid of caution, regret, or introspection. This perfume reeks of tabloid glamour, and has no substance whatsoever. Armoise, tuberose, white citrus, rose absolute, oakmoss, tiare, tuberose, vanilla, linden, and lemon tree blossom.

Although this scent originated with fine plants and the pure essences, the final result is a grotesque, eerily empty caricature of a debauched, narcissistic would-be debutante.

In The Bottle: It's girly and perfumey. Quite classic and traditional to the nose.

On Wet: Very light, unobtrusive floral. Something sweet with the floral underlying.

On Drydown: "Empty" is the perfect way to describe this scent. While light and lovely and demanding attention, it lacks any real depth or substance. It rather wafts in and around, mingling, fleeting.

Overall: I rather like it for summer. It's just right, not overpowering. Had some alright lasting power on me.

Pruno

Jailhouse hooch. Distilled in toilets, this vintage is comprised of chow line droppings, including oranges, apples, ketchup, and sugar.

In the Bottle: Reminds me of the syrup in Del Monte Fruit Cocktail.

On Wet: Fermented syrup of fruit cocktail! LOL!!!

On Drydown: Turns a touch more foody / sweet on me, kinda bubbly. And with an underlying whiff of the scent of Burt's Bee's Tomato Garden Toner, which I LOVE.

Overall: I bought this just because it looked fun. I didn't really know what to expect from the description, honestly. If you're a fan of sweet / foody / boozy scents, this is right up your alley. I love it!

By the way, if you dare, make your own Pruno! The drink... not the perfume. And if you do, man are you brave! LOL!

General catalog scent, from the Picnic In Arkham series. Shub has been revived, was an LE in the spring of 2005. I got an imp, late, and have been nursing that for some time. Now that it's back and in the general catalog I ordered a bottle immediately. :)

Iä! Shub-Niggurath! The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young, the All-Mother and wife of the Not-to-Be-Named-One.

The lust incense of a corrupted Astarte. A blend of ritual herbs and dark resins, shot through with three gingers and aphrodisiacal spices.

In the bottle: Oh yes, there are the evil gingersnaps!! *loves*

On wet: Turned a tiny bit lemony this time. Hmmm... I'm getting spicy-lemony.

On drydown: Okay more gingery again with a spicy-incensey thing going on underneath. Lemony scent has died down and mixed in. Good it was a little *too* lemony when freshly applied to my skin.

Overall: Mmmm... so glad this is back!!!! :)

Recieved decanted imp (trial vial) via a decant circle.

The Jólasveinar are the seventy-some offspring of Grýla and Leppalúði, an ogre couple with a taste for chomping naughty children. This impish brood delights in causing discomfort, sowing confusion, and all-out raising hell during the Yule season. Their names are indicative of their malicious intentions -- Strap Loosener, Door Slammer, Window Peeper, Sausage Snatcher, Doorway Sniffer, Icebreaker -- and their creepy natures -- Lamp Shadow, Smoke Gulper, Crevice Imp. The devillish Jólasveinar finally cease their mischief and head for home at Þrettándinn.

Their scent is a mishmash of snow, dirt, Icelandic moss, marsh felwort, and the smushed petals of buttercups and moorland spotted orchids, with the barest hint of the scent of pilfered Christmas pastries.

In the vial: Slightly pine-y (maybe) with an underlying foody-ness.

On wet: Something floral happens. I still get pine, but am smelling less pastry/sweet. But it's not what I really expected, I wanted earthy and cakey. It's not as foody on me as some forum people have reviewed it as being.

On drydown: As mischievous as it's namesake. First it wants to be flowery, then I'll pick out something sweet waaaaay underneath. Then it totally changes again to pine forest. It's strange. An interesting blend. And I must really amp florals because it's all I'm smelling after an hour on. Sometimes another note will peek in but it's right back to flowers.

Overall: Not really sure if it's L-O-V-E love with this one, but I do like it.

F5 is SO great! I love how... LOL... "refreshing" it is. It really is!!

Aloe, white musk, lime peel, fresh mint, seaspray, verbena and green tea.

I just got my bottle and I'm in lurve dammit!

Forum only limited edition.

In the bottle: Will concur with other forum reviewers: Mojito!!!!!

On wet: A little more of a kick than Embalming Fluid, which I also love. I'm getting the musk, which usually amps up on my skin, but it's not here, it's subtle.

On drydown: Softens up to a green tea with mint thing.

Overall: Love! The perfect South Florida / Keys scent actually. :)

Definitely befitting it's name, I'd say. LOL!!

From The Salon.

Two Monsters by Hieronymous Bosch

Oakmoss, vetiver, black musk, champaca flower, leather, patchouli, ginger, Japanese pittosporum, ambergris and white pepper.

In the bottle: Masculine. But I have liked some of Beth's scents that would be considered more masculine so this is good. Besides, it's Bosch so I had to have a bottle! Strong. Dark.

On wet: Still deep and dark but I'm getting more spiciness from the blend. The white pepper is a great note! Very leathery and as well almost woody.

On drydown: Morphs into something incredible on me... deep, leathery, incense-y. After a bit more, it softens to something a bit sweeter. Pittosporum I read, is "mock orange" so that would make sense... I'm getting a touch of that now. Still sexy and yummy.

Overall: Unisex for sure. Works well on me, and I really like the way the notes play together with my chemistry. Chalk one up for Two Monsters... my first Salon hit! :)

And! Welcome, new additions to my friends list! Good to have you on board. :)

Recieved free imp from the Lab with an order.

From Love Potions.

The scent of sexual obsession, slavery to sensual pleasure, and the undercurrent of innocence defiled utterly. Amber and honey with a touch of vanilla.

In the vial: OMG wonderful honeyed amber!

On wet: This scent *is* sex. Warm and sensual. Close to the skin, and just delicious.

On drydown: It turns into this wonderfully warm, sexy thing on me. Honeyed almonds.

Overall: This imp is almost gone, and this is on my Top Ten for sure, in fact I've just amended my list on the forum. LOL!! I'm a honey and vanilla lover full stop so this is absolutely awesome. Ordering a bottle for SURE. Thank GOODNESS it's General Catalog. I can't pull my nose from my wrist!

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab

Recieved as frimp (free imp / sample) from the Lab.

From Excolo.

Centzon Totochtin: The Four Hundred divine rabbits of the Aztec pantheon that preside over parties and drunkenness. Bittersweet Mexican cocoa with rum, red wine, and a scent redolent of sacrificial blood.

In the vial: Boozy and yes, a whiff of chocolate. Not sweet milky chocolate but dark, bitter chocolate. Mmm... this might be good.

On wet: Boozy chocolate, but there's something unpleasant that happens when it hits my skin and starts to dry down...

On drydown: Why oh why am I getting .... bug spray (!!) out of this?? The forum reviews all say wine, rum, bitter chocolate and even coffee... me? Getting none of that. It smells like OFF! mosquito repellent on me. *weeps*

Overall: I had such high hopes for this one too... it just sounded too cool. Hoping it's just wonky chemistry (I'm PMSing at the mo'... yeah.) and it will be better next time. I'll hang on to this and try again.

Now to wash this off and maybe put on some Dorian. Mmmmm. Doooorian. ♥

ETA
Just won Red Lantern off eBay. Only $9! But with her $9.50 shipping (from Australia) made it about the cost of a bottle of it from the Lab itself anyway so meh. Yay! I totally had to skip the Lupercalia scents and was really drooling after Red Lantern of all of them!!

Limited Edition Planetary oil. Discontinued Oct 27 2004. Revisited Jan 15 2006.

Cleansing - Purification - Imagination - Dream Work
Emotional Growth & Healing - Mystery - Veiling - Deception – Impulse
Capriciousness - Bewitchments - Glamor - Delight - Pleasure

In the bottle: Fruity - floral. I can't tell what fruit but it's sweet, people who've reviewed this too said cherries, and yeah... it's sweet like that. Some got citrus but I just didn't... very hard to pinpoint. Almond too?

On wet: That sweet fruityness amped up a tiny bit on me. VERY sweet on me.

On drydown : Fruityness calmed down and is playing nicely with the floral notes. Less sweet and more floral now. I am not all that good at picking out notes but I smell jasmine? And ylang-ylang? Many others did too, so I must not be far off the mark there. :) I'm sure there are other florals in there too that I don't know what they are but wow the jasmine! It's pretty much heading up the pack.

Overall: Pretty. Very pretty. Reminds me of a beautiful full silvery moon on a July night with the scent of night blooming Jasmine in the air. Very feminine and lovely. I like this one!

Received freebie imp with most recent order.

From Love Potions.

Image hosting by PhotobucketBright, sweet and youthful, but swelling with a poisonous sexuality. Glittering heliotrope, honeysuckle, orange blossom and lemon verbena.

In the imp: Lemon drops! Sweet lemon drops!

On wet: Still quite lemony, but now I'm smelling the orange blossom being pulled out more.

On drydown: A mingling of sweet and tart. Innocent yet naughty at the same time. Innocence and innocence lost. Not sure if this is "order a bottle" worthy, but I like it on this first try. Has a good throw on me and lasted awhile.

From Bewitching Brews

Recieved one free imp with each of my last two orders from the Lab.

Evocative of the sea's unplumbed mysteries. Gentle and lovely, but menacing and profound. Coconut, Florentine iris, Image hosted by Photobucket.com hazelnut and opalescent white musk.

In the vial: Predominantly coconut.

On wet: Still coconut but I'm getting more of the florals too... the iris definitely and hi there, musk!

On drydown: Coconut has calmed, and I'll agree with someone on the BPAL forum that said it's dried down to smell almost identical to Coty's Sand & Sable. Remember that one? I used to wear that alot back in the day. I think it was introduced in the early 80s. But Black Pearl is creamier and warmer and I like it lots better.

Overall: Good scent for everyday wear, or even romantic wear. Sexy and tropical. Lasted all day and then some on me still smelling lovely. A keeper.

Limited Edition Yuletide season 2005 scent. Received 5ml bottle, ordered from the Lab.

Annihilation. The ice, desolation and barrenness of nuclear devastation shot through by a beam of radioactive mints.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com In The Bottle: Chilly, cold mint. With the tiniest hint of greenness.

On Wet: Ice and chill. It's quite a different scent. Nuclear devastation... well I do picture a vast landscape of ice and snow when I wear this. Barren, no trees anywhere. Just whiteness. And cold.

On Drydown: Mellowed down, stayed true to the scent when wet, at least on me. I had hopes for this one, that it would be an icy, cool mint rather than sugary candy like mint and it didn't disappoint me.

Overall: People mentioned that this is what they'd hoped for "Numb". I too after scoring an imp of that and comparing the two like this one MUCH better. Excellent and I intend to wear this throughout the winter.

Limited Edition Lunacy Blend, ordered from the Lab.

In October, the crop harvest has past, and all hands turn to the Hunt: the third and final harvest before winter. Blood Moon shines over huntsmen as they ride over reaped grain in pursuit of their prey.

In Christian mythology, Blood Moon may have a darker significance:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com"And I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind." -- Revelation 6:12-13

The feral scent of the heat of the chase, deep woods, undulating musks, brushed by forest herbs, crushed grains, and touched by blood-dimmed lunar oils.

In The Bottle: Spicy! Cinnamon? There's a slight metallic twang to this as well... the "blood" component I suppose. Is that dragon's blood? I'm not sure.

On Wet: Vanilla (or tonka?) comes in to warm it up a bit. It's a tough one to describe... it's unique and very sexy and rich. Yes, it's got a very "feral" quality to it.

On Drydown: Softens up and is big on grains on me now. I still sense the vanilla and cinnamon components, and the faint whiff of blood. The cinnamon is a dry one, a cinnamon stick rather than a stick of cinnamon gum. It's stuck with me the whole time and hasn't faded. It's less feral now. Sweeter.

Overall: Another Lunacy Blend winner for me! I'm sorry I didn't order two bottles now. And the label rocks!

Next moon: Snow Moon on the 16th. I'll be placing another order then and picking up a couple more Yule scents I'd meant to and ordering the Poes.

Ordered and recieved 5ml from the Lab.

From the Limited Edition series "A Demon In My View" which runs from 9/1/05 to 1/15/06

ANNABEL LEE
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love -
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me -
Yes! - that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we -
Of many far wiser than we -
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling - my darling - my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

A soft, innocent blend, touched with a funereal, gloom-filled air: wild peony, sweet pea, cucumber and white sage with sea lilies and moss.

In The Bottle: I smell the cucumber right away. But I can also definitely make out the sweet pea and the peony. It's a lovely, light floral scent.

On Wet: The cucumber and the sage dance together quite nicely, and the moss balances out and dampens just enough the peony and sweet pea, adding to it something heavier.

On Drydown: This is a quite pleasant, not overbearing floral. It makes me feel dreamy. There's a green quality to it that the sage and cucumber add that makes this quite wonderful. Every note is in harmony and works quite beautifully with my skin chemistry. It's not overly perfumy at all.

Overall: This is a keeper. I am SO glad I am ordering the set because that means another bottle of the beautiful Annabel Lee. It's my favorite of Poe's poems to be sure, and the blend made in it's honor does it justice. I can't wait to try the others in the set!! The bottle's label is gorgeous!

**The painting: "Miranda and the Tempest" by John William Waterhouse

Edit:
::giggle:: I'm reading the thread on the BPAL forum about the Yule update and so many of us have gone for Talvikuu, unsniffed. It's like yeah... bring it! I can't WAIT to get my bottle. Just sounds divine.

And I caved, so weak. I'm ordering the Pumpkin Patch before it goes away. I adore pumpkin but wanted to take it easy... and I'm getting imps. But seeing the labels! The. LABELS. Soooo cute! And I know I'll love them anyway since Beth's pumpkin blends are lovely.

Only because I'm wearing this right now, thought I'd throw this review up here.

Received via the Lab ordered in an imp pack.

From Diabolus

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab

Named in honor of Vlad III, Tepes, of the Order of the Dragon. Black musk, tobacco, fir, balsam of peru, cumin, bitter clove, crushed mint, and orange blossom.

Image hosted by Photobucket.comIn The Vial: Ah! Quite interesting! I do smell the mint, fir and balsam, and a hint of the orange blossom. Mmmmm. Sharp. Manly. But not so masculine I wouldn't wear it myself.

On Wet: I still smell the mint, but it's soft and mellow not biting. The orange blossom is coming up in the mix a tiny bit more too but not in your face or anything. Just sweetens up the woodsy-ness of the mix enough.

On Drydown: There's the clove and cumin! Though subtle, and just perfect. Everything has blended into one dark yet warm scent. And hooray! Actually musk in a blend that doesn't jump right out on my skin and overpower everything! It's behaving and quite nicely.

Overall: This blend is wonderfully complex. Sexy. Damn. I wish I weren't single at the moment! Put this on a hot looking guy? Oh yeah, baby. And this one has a bit of staying power. Didn't fade nearly as fast as say Absinthe or The Dormouse did on me.

From Bewitching Brews.

Received from the Lab, ordered in an imp pack.

Fall under the spell of our Green Fairy! An intoxicating blend containing wormwood essence, light mints, cardamom, anise, hyssop, and the barest hint of lemon.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com In The Vial: Licorice predominantly, with a touch of mint and citrus.

On Wet: The anise is still very predominant. Which is fine with me because I love licorice. I can make out the lemon, but just a whisper. The mint comes in and out kind of strongly, too.

On Drydown: The anise and mint have settled down now, and blended in with the other notes. I now smell something bitter and woody in with them. The wormwood, most definitely. I'll still get a little lemon peeking in and out there, too with just a faint bit of an herbal bite. I've never actually tried the drink, but this is exactly how I imagined it would smell. Heady, boozy stuff. Fades kind of fast though which is too bad. After a couple of hours I had to reapply.

Overall: I had it on today because I'd been meaning to put it on for awhile and finally got to trying it. For everyday wear, probably not. But for an evening out, it's quite nice. This green fairy is a unique and intoxicating little blend!

Limited Edition, Lunacy blend, 5ml received via eBay win.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com May marks the apex of the year’s fertility, expresses the reawakening of the sexuality of the Earth and her inhabitants, and May’s full moon celebrates both the fecundity of the creatures and flora of this world and the vibrancy, rejuvenation and life-affirming energy of Spring. Flower Moon embodies the unrestrained bliss, energy and color of the season: a bouquet of vivid, sexy blooms… tulip, daffodil, violet, dewdrop, rhododendron, iris, daisy, and a mix of California wildflowers.

In The Bottle: Flowers! Lots and lots of lovely flowers!

On Wet: Still flowers. But not POW! in-your-face floral. Just vivid and lovely, all working together. Reminds me of a sweet smelling bouquet of wildflowers one would gather in a meadow on a dewy spring morning.

On Drydown: Not much change, just softened to a lovely, non powdery floral. Definitely not overly perfumy.

Overall: Very pleased. I normally don't go for pure florals, but this blend is scrumptious. Just perfect. Makes me very happy. I was sold by the description and that I've liked the other Lunacy blends that I've tried. My next project is to score some Milk Moon.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab

From Mad Tea Party.

Received from the Lab, ordered in an imp pack.

A dizzying eddy of four teas brushed with light herbs and a breath of peony.

Image hosted by Photobucket.comIn The Vial: Tea! Tea with a light squeeze of lemon. I love any tea scents, they do quite well on me and this delighted me! I love the green herbal-ness of this scent and the sweetness of the peony.

On Wet: Still very much herbal. I smell the peony a tiny bit more too now, but it's just a whisper, really, not in your face or anything. Very light, and very clean.

On Drydown: Nothing changed much, which is nice. A perfect blend of the herbs and teas and that whiff of peony that comes out to play now and again is quite lovely. I'm glad that note didn't dominate on me as anything floral tends to overpower anything else.

Overall: Oh yes! I will be ordering a bottle of this one. It's in the top three now... Dorian, Dana O'Shee and The Dormouse! This is the first one I've had to reapply after a couple of hours though, it faded. The others have all lasted a well long time. But that's fine with me, I can actually slather this one! Delicious!!

I received imps of Come To Me (a Voodoo blend) and Megaera with my Dorian eBay win, will try out Come To Me and let y'all know if it works. haHA! In the vial that one is very yummy and sexy.

Blood Moon goes live on the 18th (just three more days) and I'm ordering that. I'll hold off on any more for at least until my second Lab order arrives. I'm having just way too much fun with these scents!

I thought since I have had this on all day I'd review it now.

From Bewitching Brews.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com A brilliant, ethereal scent: white musk, bergamot, heliotrope, peach and oakmoss.

In The Vial: Peaches. Peaches with a sparkling white undernote; the musk and heliotrope I'd reckon. Sweet and fresh.

On Wet / 10 minutes in: Still peaches. But not overpowering peaches. The bite of the bergamot and the green earthiness of the oakmoss are coming out to play just a little bit more now too. Delicious.

On Drydown: Peach has gone and given way to musk. Musk, musk, musk. With just a touch of the oakmoss underlying. My skin takes to musk right away so just as I'd feared it latched right on there. Not unpleasant at all, but I kind of wish that initial peachy fruitiness would have stayed around longer. :/

Overall: It's alright. Actually you know what? It now (4 hours later) reminds me of Skin musk. I have a bottle of that. I like Fae and will keep this imp, and wear it again, but would I get more? Haven't decided.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab

Received from the Lab, ordered in an imp pack.

From Bewitching Brews:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com In Irish folklore the Dana O'Shee are a fae, elven people that live in a realm of beauty, their nobility akin to our that own Age of Chivalry, eternally beautiful and eternally young. They surround themselves with the pleasures of the Arts, they live for the hunt, and to this day can be seen riding in procession through the Irish countryside at twilight, led by their King and Queen. However, the Dana O'Shee are not benevolent creatures, despite what their unearthly beauty may imply. They are vengeful and treacherous and possess a streak of mischievous malice, and many have whispered that their true home lies deep in the shadowed groves of the Realm of the Dead. Hearing even a single chord of their otherworldly music leaves one stunned and lost to the mortal realms for ever, finding themselves prey to the Dana O'Shee's hunt or enslaved in their Court as servants or playthings. Offerings of milk, honey and sweet grains were made to placate these creatures, and it is that the basis of the scent created in their name.

In The Vial: Creamy, sweet, almondy goodness!

On Wet: Gorgeous! I can't pull my nose away from my arm!!! Smells like you've made a hot bowl of oatmeal and added a bit of cream and drizzled on some honey. It's a sweet, quite "edible" scent, yet not cloying. There's a whisper of an underlying greenness to it as well. Just a perfect accent.

On Drydown: Almost but not quite reminiscent of Jergens lotion. Yeah, a kind of cherry-almond thing going on. But *much* better IMO. Warm, and quite comforting. I can see putting this on after a hot shower at the end of a long, hectic day to unwind and relax.

Overall: This is definitely going to be in my next order whenever I make it of a 10ml because it's the first one other than Dorian (only tried once, awaiting my 5ml and can't wait!) that I have absolutely fallen hard for. It's love. L-O-V-E.
::purrrrrrr:: Ooooh! I should try layering this with Dorian when I get it and see what happens!

Wore this one today, it was an imp the seller threw in with my eBay win of Samhain.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab

From Rappaccini's Garden

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Notorious for its properties for protection against werewolves and curing lycanthropy, this nefarious plant also has a fine history of use as a virulent poison. Clasically, Medea employed it in her many works of vengeance. This concoction of ours has none of the lethal qualities, but still personifies all of the herb's dark history beautifully.

In The Vial: Very earthy and woody. But with a sharp bite. That must be... vetiver. Very green scent.

On Wet: Quite the same as in the vial. It's very crisp. I like that. I sense rose there too? Maybe some juniper or pine?

On Drydown: Still smells sharp and green, but I'm noting something underlying now, almost... feral. Oooh. RAWR!!!

Overall: Me likey! I'd wear this again. Still deciding whether I want an entire bottle though.

So far so good, I've not hated anything I've tried.

Substantial update forthcoming I promise. Sorry for the lack thereof lately.
