Oscar picks time again!

Here it is, [livejournal.com profile] hippie_chick's annual Oscar Picks!! What and who I think will go home with that little gold bald man...

Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role

Forest Whitaker in "The Last King of Scotland".
I love Leo, and want to see a win for him, but Forest was *that* good in this film, and I think will edge out everyone else. Though we might be surprised and see Peter O'Toole get it, just because.

Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role

Mark Wahlberg in "The Departed".
Yes, Marky Mark. He was that good.

Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role

Helen Mirren in "The Queen".
She'll blow everyone else out of the water here. They rarely give Oscars in this category to comedy roles, and Meryl, though wonderful as always will not see another gold statue this time.

Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role

Abigail Breslin in "Little Miss Sunshine".
Yes, I want to see that pint sized dynamo get it! But watch, it'll go to Jennifer Hudson for "Dreamgirls". And I'm waiting for the reaction shot from Beyonce. Oh that'll be priceless. It's tough that Rinko Kikuchi and Adriana Barazza are both here for "Babel" because they turned in such incredible performances, but they'll cancel each other out I think.

Achievement in Directing

Martin Scorsese for "The Departed".
A real strong return to form for Scorsese, this is his year. He'll *finally* get the gold guy. Sorry, Clint.

Best Picture

"Babel".
It's this year's "Crash". And it's only really true strong competitor for this one is "Letters from Iwo Jima". "Sunshine", though I love that film, wasn't *quite* strong enough to be a Best Picture. Neither was "The Queen". That film was all about Helen Mirren. Marty's honor for "The Departed" will be a directing Oscar, not Best Picture.

So much for the big guns, here are the other categories:

Animated Feature Film
"Cars".
Pixar rules this category every single time. This was a no brainer.

Achievement in Art Direction
"Pan's Labyrinth".
It was amazing. This is the perfect category for it to win in.

Achievement in Cinematography
"Children of Men".
Though I've only seen clips and not the entire film as yet, it looks like it was incredibly shot.

Achievement in Costume Design
"Marie Antoinette".
Period costuming often seems to win in this category.

Documentary Feature
"An Inconvenient Truth".
It's Al Gore's presentation on Global Warming that will win this category. I think you should go rent it like now if you haven't seen it yet.

Documentary Short Subject
Not overly familiar with any of the nominees here, so I won't pick. It's up in the air.

Achievement in Film Editing
"United 93".
Yes, I finally got myself prepared to watch this film. It was truly impactful.

Foreign Language Film
"Pan's Labyrinth".
I can't recommend this one more. Go see it!

Achievement in Makeup
"Pan's Labyrinth".
Because I am not sure how pissed off people still are with Mel. They may just shut his film out of anything it's nominated for. And "Click"? No.

Original Score
"Pan's Labyrinth".
Haha! Yes, I loved it that much. The music was so good.

Original Song
"Listen" from "Dreamgirls" performed by Beyonce Knowles.
FIERCE. I LOVE this song. Melissa's song from "An Inconvenient Truth" was good too, but I love "Listen" so yeah, that's my pick. Go watch the video!

Short Film
Ehm... not sure haven't seen any of these, much like Documentary Short Subject, it's up in the air. But I LOVE the story "The Little Match Girl" so I'll pick that just because. Haha!

Sound Editing
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest".
PIRATES, woot!

Sound Mixing
"Dreamgirls".
I said it before and was wrong, but yeah, it's a musical.

Visual Effects
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest".
Bill Nighy's Davy Jones. 'Nuff said. ♥

Adapted Screenplay
"Children of Men".
It's just an instinct here. Borat? No.

Original Screenplay
"Little Miss Sunshine".
LOVE.

Using my Amadeus icon. Remember the year of Amadeus? ♥

There you have it, my picks. See you tomorrow night! I work 8-7, a kinda long day, hopefully I can wrap up what I'm there to do earlier but we'll see. I will be home in plenty of time to watch though. Morning after commentary on Monday.
