Have you seen my childhood....
Nov. 16th, 2002 04:00 pmI am in the process of gathering songs to burn a Christmas mix CD. I found a bunch of songs that I remember growing up... the classics. This one will *not* have any Mariah Carey or *NSYNC on it! :)
Anyway, found "Marshmallow World" sung by Mr. Frank Sinatra, Bowie and Bing singing "Little Drummer Boy / Peace On Earth", and the perennial "Christmas Song" by Nat "King" Cole.
In having my memory jogged, I also added a novelty favorite of my very Swedish (mom's side) family, "I Yust Go Nuts At Christmas" by Yogi Yorgesson. Demento fans will know that one.
Then I started hunting for the ORIGINAL version of "Here Comes Suzy Snowflake", and if you are familiar with the bygone days of local Chicago area favorites like Ray Rayner you'll remember "Hardrock, Cocoa and Joe".
All I could find on the former was Rosemary Clooney's version. Good, but not the same. The latter.... nothing. Does a recording of "Hardrock..." even exist? If any of you know in the remotest what I'm talking about and can lead me in the right direction I'd love you forever.
Searching for that elusive song brought me to this website where I've just spent an hour reliving an entire chunk of my childhood. I got misty just reading and seeing pictures of Ray Rayner, Frazier Thomas, Bozo.... we grow up and grow old far too quickly.
**sniff, sniff**
Anyway, off to work on this little project some more. I want to have it ready to enjoy when I start holiday shopping next weekend.
