I love this song. It's "Not While I'm Around" from "Sweeney Todd".

Ed Sanders (Toby) is great here.

Bloody (literally LOL) good movie. It got the Golden Globe for best picture! And Johnny? He scored best actor!! Yay!

Here is a YouTube (not a clip, just the soundtrack) of him singing "Epiphany"...

And well, have to leave you with some wonderful Alan Rickmanness. Mmmmm.

hippie_chick: (Johnny Depp / absinthe)

Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Go see Sweeney Todd, people!!

Okay, this just came to my attention.

Warner Bros. is teaming with Johnny Depp's Infinitum-Nihil and Graham King's GK Films to develop a feature based on the '60s shock-soap "Dark Shadows" .

Read more about it here.

I do remember this show, and as a kid being glued to the set every day when it came on, and watching reruns. It was a trip. And just really, really cool for a soap opera, campy as it was. But to a kid like I was, it could be actually quite scary. It was a precursor to shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, if truth be told. I remember even having a Dark Shadows board game, complete with coffins and glow in the dark skeletons! Way cool.

I think Johnny will be perfect for Barnabas. I really do. I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of this. There is no *official* word of Johnny actually taking on the role of Barnabas Collins, just that they've secured the rights, but he needs to. He REALLY does. It would be great! Plus he's admitted to an obsession with the show and the character since he was a kid. Jonathan Frid was da man.

That said, Johnny has his fingers in many pots just lately. Looking at IMDb, he's rumored to have a part in "Sin City 2", which is in production, as well as currently in production on "Shantaram". And of course there's "Sweeney Todd", currently in post production. After that, doesn't he finally start "Rum Diary"? Either way, you probably won't see the Dark Shadows movie until, also according to IMDb, sometime in 2010.

"I remember saying something like 'I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive.' Suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us. And the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car. And a voice was screaming 'Holy Jesus what are these goddamn animals?!' No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. The poor bastard'll see them soon enough. Fucking pigs! Swine!'"

Just because we watched this last night.

Update on my Veiled Chameleon by the way. We got a brick of Eco-Earth, and made her a nice place to dig. She has dug. A quite nice hole. Now what? LOL!

Yo ho!

Finally I saw Pirates III.

Maaaaaybe a touch too long, a touch convoluted, but!

Johnny Depp! I loves me some Captain Jack.
Pirate battles! Woo hoo!!!!
Keith Richards! He was damn good even if just a too brief cameo!
Barbossa is BACK! Geoffrey Rush = brilliant.

And how hot was Orlando Bloom in this one I ask you? Particularly during the end sequences? Hmmmm.... Well hello there! I don't care if we never *really* get to know his character any better even after a third film, just LOOK at him!

Sexy pirates.

And I'm with everyone who says stay till the bitter end. You're treated for your efforts after the credits roll with an extra little scene.

As far as a fourth I'm hearing is being talked about? I think they should just leave it at the originally conceived trilogy. This should be the end. To do another would just drag it out too much. But watch, there will be, because this is too big a money maker for Disney not to do something else with the franchise. They tied everything up nicely enough but left enough as well to carry on. I mean I'd love it, any excuse to watch sword fights, cannonfire and Captain Jack again, but... but... no. I think it was a lovely journey, but every theme park ride must end, after all.

I hope she'll be alright. This doesn't sound good. They're in my thoughts, I know how much he dotes on that little girl. Damn. Get better, Lily-Rose!!

HOLLYWOOD - Star Johnny Depp's seven-year-old daughter Lily-Rose was seriously ill in hospital last night.

The devastated actor and his partner Vanessa Paradis, who also have a four-year-old son, John Jack, are keeping a round-the-clock vigil at Lily-Rose's bedside.

She was rushed to a hospital in Britain nine days ago after suddenly falling ill.

Details of her condition and exactly where she is being treated are being kept secret.

A hospital source said: "Lily is a very sick little girl and Johnny has hardly left her side. It is heartbreaking for him to see her in this state.

"She really is very poorly but he is a devoted dad and is spending as much time as he can with her."

Depp, 43, has been using a staff entrance to get into the hospital and arriving in a blacked-out car with minders.

But hospital staff immediately recognised him when he arrived.

The source said: "He has not asked for any special favours but just wants the best for his child, like any parent. It is such a difficult time for him but he is hanging in there for the sake of his daughter and the whole family is just praying that she gets better and is taking each day as it comes.

"It's been an emotional rollercoaster for all of them and he's been worrying himself silly. He wouldn't wish this on anyone and has been finding it hard keeping it together."

Depp, who has been shooting Sweeney Todd in Britain with Edward Scissorhands director Tim Burton, is a dedicated father who often talks about how his children have transformed his life.

"You can't plan the kind of deep love that results in children," he said.

"Fatherhood was not a conscious decision. It was part of the wonderful ride I was on. All the math finally worked.

"I just want to watch my kids grow up and make sure they're healthy and happy,

"They are the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. I have never in my life thought it was possible to feel such profound, deep love.

"Being a dad has given me great strength, great perspective, great calm. I'ma homebody. More than anything, I love being with my family."

Depp and French actress and singer Paradis, 34, have been together for nine years.

The publicist for Sweeney Todd and Depp's LA publicist, Robin Baum, declined to comment on Lily-Rose's illness."

ETA: She's improving... )

Wonder if she really was *that* sick, or if this is just press exaggeration? Either way, glad to hear she's improving. :)

Depp Finally Records "Sea Shanties" Album.

"Hollywood actor Johnny Depp has finally recorded his ‘Sea Shanties’ album.

Depp has worked with a number of musicians, including Bono, Bryan Ferry and Eliza Carthy to create the album that will be publicly released as well as featuring in the third ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film.

Depp has hoped to enlist the help of The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards, but Richards was forced to cancel after falling from a palm tree.

Eliza Carthy explained: "It was Johnny's idea. He thought that pirates should be singing these tunes on the boat during the film. The producers liked the idea and let him record this album.

"Keith was booked in to come to Los Angeles and record it, but then had that accident. Johnny was really upset and worried for him."

Keith Richards has signed up to play Captain Jack Sparrow’s father in the third instalment of ‘Pirates’."

As well as being reported all over the internet.

And LOL... poor Keef. I wonder if there still isn't a way to get him worked into the album project anyway 'cause it would be just too cool. And I'm just glad he's actually really gonna be in the movie!! Yay!!

In other Johnny news, he's on board for the big screen version of "Sweeney Todd", to be directed by Tim Burton as has been bandied about for awhile now. Looks like it's really going forward.

Sweeney Todd Comes To The Big Screen.

"It looks like Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's version of the tale of Sweeney Todd is finally headed to the silver screen.

Variety reports that Johnny Depp will star as the vengeful barber in the film musical, which will be directed by Tim Burton. Burton will helm the movie, which was developed by DreamWorks, for Paramount Pictures. Screenwriter John Logan has adapted the Sondheim-Wheeler musical for the screen.

"Sweeney Todd" is being put on the fast track because another Burton project, "Ripley's Believe It or Not," has been sent back into development. That film was to star Jim Carrey as the famed explorer-reporter.

"Sweeney Todd" will mark yet another Depp-Burton collaboration. The Hollywood actor has previously been directed by Burton in "Edward Scissorhands," "Ed Wood," "Sleepy Hollow," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and the animated film "The Corpse Bride."

Considered one of Sondheim's masterpieces, Sweeney Todd originally premiered at Broadway's Uris Theatre on Feb. 6, 1979, with a cast led by Len Cariou (Sweeney) and Angela Lansbury (Mrs. Lovett), who both nabbed Tony Awards for their roles. Harold Prince directed the production, which was awarded the 1979 Tony for Best Musical. A 1989 revival at Circle in the Square Theatre featured Beauty and the Beast's Beth Fowler as Mrs. Lovett and former Evita star Bob Gunton as the man who returns to London to avenge the death of his wife."

He can sing, and I think he'd do very well with the role. At least I hope so. But I love Johnny, so maybe I'm biased. It's reported as well that Johnny will be strengthening his singing chops by taking some voice lessons. I know there are people that are casting huge doubts about his ability to portray the Demon Barber of Fleet Street and do it well. BTW it's based on a true story. I've seen a televised version of the theatrical production with Angela Lansbury but a few years ago. I've never seen it live on stage.

I wonder when this is to begin filming, because this month, they start filming the third PotC film and after that I was under the impression that Johnny would move on to his second Hunter S. Thompson project, "Rum Diaries". But we'll see how everything shakes out.

And that "Ripley's" project? It sounds hella cool. I hope being sent back into development doesn't mean that it's gonna suck.

GUH. *drools*

Also, I hear tell he was here in Florida. They are adding characters to our POTC ride at Disney World, and one of them is Jack, so Johnny was here for that. I had no idea. If I had you know I'd have been up there stalking him. Oh yeah.

Found just now:

According to anonymous sources, director Tim Burton and actor Johnny Depp, who together have worked on five major motion pictures including 'Edward Scissorhands' and more recently 'Charlie & the Chocolate Factory,' will team once more for the upcoming movie musical adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's 'Sweeney Todd.'

Depp will portray title character Sweeney Todd - the demon barber or Fleet Street - who slits the throats of his innocent (and not-so-innocent) customers.

As of last year, Sam Mendes ('Road to Perdition,' 'Jarhead') was rumored to be the frontrunner to direct, however he left the project shortly after 'Jarhead' opened in theatres.

It is unknown if Burton will opt to use the existing John Logan screenplay adaptation, or start from scratch. Therefore, a release date cannot be predicted at this time.

'Sweeney Todd' first opened on Broadway in 1979 which starred Len Cariou, Angela Lansbury, Victor Garber, and Ken Jennings. The show is currently on Broadway in its second revival, starring Patti LuPone and Michael Cerveris. The show features a score by legendary composer Stephen Sondheim who in his career has earned eight Tony awards, including Best Score for 'Sweeney Todd.'

An official announcement is expected in the coming weeks.

Why? Well number one it's Tom Petty. And number two? Because Johnny Depp is in it! They just showed it on VH1 Classics. *le sigh*
