Weekend...

Good weekend, I guess. Worked all day Saturday. Hopefully March is coming in like a lamb for you all. Here it's definitely very lamb-like.

Last night was a blast. Went to Classical Mystery Tour and it was great! I didn't expect to enjoy it nearly as much as I did. These are veterans of Beatlemania so I knew they'd be good, but had no idea just how good.

The two best were Jim Owen as John and Tony Kishman as Paul. There were times when Tony was singing that I actually thought Paul was up there. Same with Jim, I nearly cried as he sang Imagine... so good.

And you George fans on my list will be happy to know that Tom Teeley did him justice. His playing was incredible and he had the stance, mannerisms, everything down well. And Carmine Grippa was an adorable Ringo! <3

They ran the gamut... did about 30 Beatles songs, not including 4 or 5 Wings songs that Tony performed, which were great! The very drunk woman behind me wearing the Paul McCartney tour teeshirt would concur... she was carrying on like I don't know what yelling "I LOVE YOU PAAAAUUUULLL!" Ugh. LOL! Anyroad, I thought it was cool that they did a couple of more obscure songs, Tom did Savoy Truffle and Carmine did Good Night. You can see the set list and hear clips on the site I have linked above. The songs are nowhere near in order... and Jim didn't do Hide Your Love Away unfortunately. But Twist and Shout had the entire place up dancing at the end, and even the orchestra was in on the dancing!

The crowd was really receptive, and the night was perfect... slight breeze and not unbearably hot, just cool enough. It started to drizzle the tiniest bit but stopped.

Having the orchestra there just reinforced the fact that the *music* is just so great. Beautiful orchestrations and every note just as it was meant to be, as it was written. The whirling dervish of a crescendo in A Day In The Life was incredible.

All that, and I still made it home only missing like an hour of the Oscars. My thoughts and observations:

Missed Billy Crystal's opening piece and the supporting acting awards but mom filled me in. Yay Renee!! And I missed Annie Lennox's performance as well and I'd wanted to see that. But I saw her accept the award for the song Into The West ... not the song I'd have picked to win but oh well... and she looked beautiful.

They need to put Joan Rivers out to pasture. Really.

I loved Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy performing Kiss At The End Of The Rainbow (the song that *should* have won, dammit!!) in character as Mitch and Mickey from A Mighty Wind. They were so great! In fact they and the Rendezvous piece were the only two performances I was able to catch of the song nominees.

Charlize!! Yay!!! She looked stunning.

Finding Nemo was a cinch to win in it's category.

OMG! Jack Black and Will Ferrell... AHAHAHAHAHA!! They were great. Mom told me I missed some funniness from Robin Wiliams as well as from Ben and Owen, too. Rats.

But wow, what a night for Peter Jackson and the LotR crew!! I'm so happy for them. I loved the running joke about running out of people in New Zealand to thank. But I had no doubts they'd have a great night. Woohooo!!! Where was Orli?!

Johnny. ::sigh:: Just to see his name up there was cool. And it was high and bloody well time it was, too. I didn't have any expectations, wasn't really thinking he'd win, but I did have a tiny little piece of me that held out hope and crossed my fingers. Haha! Sean was deserving, for sure. His performance was incredible.

Fashion. My favorites: Scarlett Johansson, Naomi Watts, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones (a knockout as always in va va voom red) and Sandra Bullock . Shout out to the men... Johnny rocked his tux, and so did my Hobbitses! Haha! Jude. Law. **drool, drool**
Least favorites: Renee Zellweger was beautiful, but I don't know why I wasn't crazy about her gown. Nicole Kidman... there were gowns that looked way better on her. Angelina Jolie has worn better gowns too. Susan Sarandon's hair and makeup were great, but meh... her gown didn't slay me. Jamie Lee Curtis scares me anymore. EEP! Uma... what was up with that getup, darlin'?

Anyway... other than that, no real Michael Moore-ish drama, everything seemed to be smooth, and well... all was good. Too bad. Could have used some oomph. Hee!
