Top Five On Friday @ The Music Memoirs

Top 5 album "killers." You know, songs that ruined an album in one way or another.

Thanks for the topic this week, nat! And I'm late with this one, but better late than never. I also had to give this one a little thought. Haha!

1. "Sometimes It Snows In April" - Prince and the Revolution (Album: "Parade")
Don't get me wrong I like the song alright enough on it's own. Not my favorite, but it's nice. It just feels really out of place on this album.

2. "My Eyes Have Seen You" - The Doors (Album: "Strange Days")
I've always considered this their most mediocre song. It just brings down what is a pretty darned solid album. Too "poppy" to me, with a sound that had previously been done many times before. Not what I'd expect in sound from The Doors.

3. "The Long and Winding Road" - The Beatles (Album: "Let It Be")
I'm okay with Let It Be, really, however it's not coherent enough for me and I don't listen to it as often as others. This song though, at least the version that made it to the original release, is not my favorite. I love the song, just not the over the top orchestration applied to it. I much prefer the "naked" version... the one that appeared on the Anthology with just Paul and the piano basically. Gave the song such impact and would have fit better with the more "stripped down" vibe of "Let It Be". Thankfully this has also been put on the version of "Let It Be" that should have been released originally, "Let It Be: Naked" !

4. "My Girl" - The Rolling Stones (Album: "Flowers")
I love this album. Really I do. It brings my childhood back instantaneously. However, they should have left this one alone. Fine for the Temptations, but not the Stones. It just doesn't fit in there at all, to me seems awkward.

5. "Before It's Too Late" - Donny Osmond (Album: "Eyes Don't Lie")
I'm a big fan of "Eyes". It was edgier and funkier than past Donny Osmond output. But this song is the only thing I'd change about it. There are already three pretty strong ballads on there, "Make It Last Forever", "Private Affair", and "Love Will Survive", the latter being the strongest of them. This one isn't as strong, and it's just one too many ballads.
