ANNABEL LEE
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love -
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me -
Yes! - that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we -
Of many far wiser than we -
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling - my darling - my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.A soft, innocent blend, touched with a funereal, gloom-filled air: wild peony, sweet pea, cucumber and white sage with sea lilies and moss.In The Bottle: I smell the cucumber right away. But I can also definitely make out the sweet pea and the peony. It's a lovely, light floral scent.
On Wet: The cucumber and the sage dance together quite nicely, and the moss balances out and dampens just enough the peony and sweet pea, adding to it something heavier.
On Drydown: This is a quite pleasant, not overbearing floral. It makes me feel dreamy. There's a green quality to it that the sage and cucumber add that makes this quite wonderful. Every note is in harmony and works quite beautifully with my skin chemistry. It's not overly perfumy at all.
Overall: This is a keeper. I am SO glad I am ordering the set because that means another bottle of the beautiful Annabel Lee. It's my favorite of Poe's poems to be sure, and the blend made in it's honor does it justice. I can't wait to try the others in the set!! The bottle's label is gorgeous!
**The painting: "Miranda and the Tempest" by John William WaterhouseEdit:::giggle:: I'm reading the thread on the BPAL forum about the Yule update and so many of us have gone for Talvikuu, unsniffed. It's like yeah... bring it! I can't WAIT to get my bottle. Just sounds divine.
And I caved, so weak. I'm ordering the Pumpkin Patch before it goes away. I adore pumpkin but wanted to take it easy... and I'm getting imps. But seeing the labels!
The. LABELS. Soooo cute! And I know I'll love them anyway since Beth's pumpkin blends are lovely.
