The Musical Best of 2006
Dec. 29th, 2006 07:49 amExpanding upon this week's Top Five on Friday @ The Music Memoirs
Recapping the year in music and music video. My own choices for Top Ten...
Songs
1. Crazy - Gnarls Barkley.
Don't even pretend you don't like this one. It's instantly memorable, soul the way it SHOULD be done. It was in my top two songs of this past summer and I still have to stop and listen whenever it comes on. I'm still not tired of it. Also try "Smiley Faces".
2. Steady As She Goes - The Raconteurs.
This was my number one song of the summer, my 'wear out your iPod' track. Fuzzy, down and dirty garage pop candy.
3. Ooh La La - Goldfrapp.
Eurodisco slick. FANTASTIC dance track.
4. Thunder on the Mountain - Bob Dylan.
Wonderful, rollicking blues-rock. Dylan at his finest.
5. Dani California - The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Very much sounding like earlier Peppers stuff. In my top faves off "Stadium Arcadium". Also try "Tell Me Baby". Excellent.
6. Ain't No Other Man - Christina Aguilera.
All sass and brass. Not much of a fan of the pop tart contingent but you have to admit, this girl can SING.
7. Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol.
They channel Coldplay to wonderful effect here.
8. Black Sweat - Prince.
Bumpin' and sweatin'. Prince is back, yo!
9. The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage - Panic! At The Disco.
Okay, the title comes from Palahniuk so they win for that. But this is one of the best tracks off their album and has some awesome riffs.
10. Saving Grace - Tom Petty.
Welcome back, Tom! :)
Albums
I love Rhapsody. I am able to listen to the latest releases that I may not own as yet so I'm not behind on anything.
1. Love - The Beatles.
2. Modern Times - Bob Dylan
3. Broken Boy Soldiers - The Raconteurs.
4. St. Elsewhere - Gnarls Barkley.
5. American V - Johnny Cash.
6. Taking The Long Way - The Dixie Chicks.
7. White Bread and Black Beer - Scritti Politti
8. Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam.
9. Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers.
10. The Crane Wife - The Decemberists. "O Valencia". Enough said.

5. Dani California - Red Hot Chili Peppers. Just completely awesome.
6. I Write Sins Not Tragedies - Panic! At The Disco. Very Cirque du Soleil... I love this one.
7. Ain't No Other Man - Christina Aguilera. Love the song, and the video is put together well.
8. Stupid Girls - Pink. Excellent.
9. The Kill - 30 Seconds To Mars. I don't know why but I've always found Jared Leto fascinating. Good song. Video is pretty cool too.
10. Ring The Alarm - Beyonce. Say what you want... this woman is FIERCE.
So that's it, my picks for 2006. Whew!
