hippie_chick: (earphones / nietzsche quote)
A post to a forum I frequent got me thinking about some of the greatest opening lyrics of rock songs because someone posted Spinner's list. I have to say Spinner sucks with lists quite a bit, so I have to expound upon this. Here are a few that I can add that you really can't forget once you hear 'em:

"I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand walking through the streets of Soho in the rain. He was looking for the place called Lee Ho Fook's, going to get a big dish of beef chow mein."
- Warren Zevon, Werewolves of London. And yes, this one ends up on most greatest opening lyrics of rock lists, for it is that great. XD

"When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can think at all."
- Paul Simon, Kodachrome. And how true is that?! Love this song.

"I read the news today, oh boy."
- The Beatles, A Day In the Life. What more needs to be said?

"Johnny's in the basement
mixing up the medicine.
I'm on the pavement
thinking about the government.
The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says he's got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off..."
- Bob Dylan, Subterranean Homesick Blues. Bow down to the great Zimmerman.

"Hey little girl is your daddy home? Did he go away and leave you all alone?
I got a bad desire...I'm on fire."
- Bruce Springsteen, I'm On Fire. One of only a few songs by the Boss that I really love.

"Sitting on a park bench eyeing little girls with bad intent. Snot running down his nose, greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes."
- Jethro Tull - Aqualung

"If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?"
- Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird. This song makes me cry.

"You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht.
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye, your scarf it was apricot."
- Carly Simon, You're So Vain. Still don't to this day know just who this song is about.

"You're breakin' my heart, you're tearin' it apart. So fuck you!!"
- Harry Nilsson, You're Breakin' My Heart. I just love singing along with this one.

"Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste. I've been around for a long, long year, stole many a man's soul and faith. And I was around when Jesus Christ had his moment of doubt and pain. Made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands and sealed his fate."
- The Rolling Stones, Sympathy For The Devil. Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name.

Anyway, enough of that. I could go on. In fact, [livejournal.com profile] elfslut? Feel free to steal this for the meme if you want.

Lohan will serve one day in jail in her drunken-driving cases under the terms of a plea deal reached Thursday.

Through her attorney, she pleaded guilty to some of the misdemeanor charges against her. Lohan did not attend the hearing in Beverly Hills.

Earlier in the day, she dodged felony charges, with prosecutors filing misdemeanor counts after tests found she possessed insufficient amounts of cocaine, authorities announced.

The actress was charged with seven counts, including two counts each of driving under the influence, driving with blood alcohol of over .08 percent, being under the influence of cocaine, as well as reckless driving, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office says.

By avoiding felony charges, Lohan faced a maximum penalty of days – rather than years – behind bars.

The charges stem from two separate DUI incidents, one in May in Beverly Hills and one in July in Santa Monica.

In both incidents, police found Lohan in possession of cocaine. But in each case, the amounts tested were below the .05 grams required by office policy for felony filing.

A conference before a Beverly Hills judge is set for Thursday afternoon, in which Lohan may enter a plea a day before her arraignment which was originally set for Friday.

The 21-year-old actress is currently in rehab at the Cirque Lodge program in Utah.

Lohan was arrested on July 24 after allegedly hijacking an SUV with two men inside, and recklessly chasing another SUV – driven by the mother of her personal assistant – through the streets of Santa Monica, Calif.

She was booked for DUI, possession of cocaine, transporting a narcotic into a custody facility, and driving on a suspended license. Officers found a container on Lohan that tested at .02 grams of cocaine, according to the DA.

Lohan was previously arrested for DUI after crashing her Mercedes-Benz in Beverly Hills just two months prior. Tests showed that the substance found in her purse was .04 grams of cocaine powder.

On Aug. 14, Tracie Rice, a passenger in the car Lohan was allegedly chasing, filed a lawsuit for an undisclosed amount against the actress.

Rice "thought she was going to die that night," her attorney Paul Hoffman told PEOPLE, "and Ms. Lohan needs to be held accountable."

Okay let me get this right. Possession of cocaine in both DUIs, um, that's a felony, right? And seven misdemeanors? Paris gets 23 days for less than this, even though she deserved it. What's wrong with this picture? Why? Oh don't tell me. Money and fame. Anybody else, we'd be seeing some good jail time, at least a year. Right? This is an outrage.

This just proves to me that celebrities can get away with any freakin' thing they want, even murder (O.J. Simpson I'm looking at you, you murdering sonofabitch) just have good lawyers. For cripe sake.

And "rehab" (she's at Cirque Lodge in Utah) consists of white water rafting excursions and trips to the mall. *eyeroll*

ETA

It would appear as well that Nicole Richie has checked in to serve her *gasp* entire four days!! /*gasp!* in jail today, as well. She'll be out by Sunday. And oh this is rich. Shawn Chapman was Nicole's counsel. She worked for Johnny Cochran. She was one of O.J.'s lawyers. OMFG. See? Just what I said.

Martin Scorsese's documentary on the Rolling Stones has been delayed till next year.

"The theatrical release of Martin Scorsese's concert documentary about the Rolling Stones has been postponed by seven months to sometime next April, distributor Paramount Classics said. The film had originally been set to open Sept. 21.

A spokesperson said the Viacom Inc.-owned studio needed more time to set up the promotional campaign for "Shine a Light," noting that the band is busy touring Europe until August 26.

The film, whose title comes from an old Rolling Stones gospel song, was shot during two performances at New York's Beacon Theatre last fall, when guest performers included bluesman Buddy Guy, Jack White of the White Stripes and Christina Aguilera.

Scorsese, who often uses Rolling Stones compositions in his movies, was in Rome early last month to screen a rough cut of the film for the band."

I can't freakin' wait for this. I just watched a piece on it on ET and Christina Aguilera was shown doing "Brown Sugar" with Mick. Looked hot. Very hot. And I think Scorsese will do a magnificent job with this doc.
