New direction for the Tuesday meme....

Tuesday Tunes @ The Music Memoirs
~ How important are the lyrics to you when it comes to a song.
It goes both ways for me. There are songs I love that have lyrics that don't make any sense but I adore the music. Then there are songs I didn't really love UNTIL I really listened to the words. Ultimately however, I will have to say it's the music, the SOUND of the song that grabs me first, then the lyrics.
~ Tell us some lyrical wisdom.
"Everybody's talking and no one says a word
Everybody's making love and no one really cares
There's Nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs
Always something happening and nothing going on
There's always something cooking and nothing in the pot
They're starving back in China so finish what you got"
Nobody Told Me - John Lennon
I just finished listening to this one, so it's in my head. LOL!
~ Who writes the best lyrics and why?
John Lennon. Simply because of the sheer impact and resonance of his words.
Bob Dylan. Purely because of his influence. He brought real depth to rock lyrics.
Paul Simon. Because he's literate and poetic.
Joni Mitchell. Rich lyrics that are personal, and create an indelible mood.
Yes there are more, definitely. I look forward to reading the answers and seeing what the rest of you think.
