hippie_chick: (Her soul was saved by rock 'n roll)
Tuesday Tunes @ The Music Memoirs

Another word association week. Remember name the first song/artist/album etc that you think of when you see these 10 words.

Country: Goin' Up The Country - Canned Heat

I'm goin', I'm goin' where the water tastes like wine.
Well, I'm goin' where the water tastes like wine.
You can jump in the water and stay drunk all the time.

Loved the performance of this song at Woodstock, and it will forever be one of those great "hippie anthems" in my mind.

Patriotic: You're A Grand Old Flag - Standard written by the great George M. Cohan

You're a grand old flag, you're a high flying flag
and forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of the land I love,
the home of the Free and the Brave.
Every heart beats true 'neath the red, white and blue
where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Summer: The Boys Of Summer - Don Henley

And I can see you
your brown skin shining in the sun.
You got your hair combed back,
sunglasses on baby.
And I can tell you
my love for you will still be strong
after the boys of summer have gone.

I really like the video to this one:

Heat: Heat Wave - Martha and the Vandellas

Stop this - it's got a hold on me
I said this ain't the way it's supposed to be.
It's like a heatwave burning in my heart
I can't keep from crying
tearing me apart.

Fun: Fun, Fun, Fun - The Beach Boys

And she'll have fun fun fun
'til her daddy takes the t-bird away...

Beach: Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters

Under the boardwalk down by the sea,
on a blanket with my baby is where I'll be.

Surf: Surfer Girl - The Beach Boys
See, the boys have come in handy again. Can't be summer / the beach without them, though, can it? I love this song.

I have watched you on the shore,
standing by the ocean's roar
Do you love me, do you surfer girl?
Surfer girl surfer girl.

Park: Saturday In The Park - Chicago

Saturday in the park,
I think it was the Fourth of July.
Saturday in the park,
I think it was the Fourth of July.
People dancing, people laughing,
a man selling ice cream
singing Italian songs...

Live: Get Yer Ya-Yas Out - The Rolling Stones (album)

Just the greatest live album ever. "Love In Vain" here is amazing. And Mick is still getting his "Performance" on with "Midnight Rambler", which I think is the shining jewel in the crown.

South: Makes me think of southern rock, which immediately brought Lynyrd Skynyrd to mind, the song that pops in there first of course would be "Sweet Home Alabama".
