So much better than "The Grudge". Seriously. And that's even though Takashi Shimizu directed that film, too. I don't know... I guess I just think the story was presented better in the Japanese. We have here the classic "vengeful ghost" so popular in Japanese lore. Being that, when someone dies in the grip of uncontrollable rage, a curse is left behind and consumes the place that it happened. This happens to be the house inhabited by an elderly woman that a young social worker named Rika goes to check on. The story just unfolds from there as you find out more about the history of what happened in the place to cause the curse. Very creepy and well done. Has it's "jump out of your seat" moments.
