Here are the ones at least that I like the best, and that I find quite effective. I've linked them to Amazon too, to explore further and see the track listings and buy them if you don't already have them.
Top 5 greatest hits albums
1. The Beatles - 1
I own everything, so I was almost going to pass this one up. Glad I didn't, if only for the remastered sound. I find I like to have this one handy at all times. And younger fans new to The Beatles and wanting to try them out would do well with this one.
2. Bob Marley - Legend
Friends turned me on to Marley via this album. It's a great single disc and perfect starting point for going in a bit deeper. This one, though, is the one I keep coming back to.
3. Eagles - Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975
Pre Hotel California goodness. This is still one of the biggest selling hits packages out there. 10 perfectly played tracks showcasing the band's country rock trademark sound. Quality stuff.
4. David Bowie - Best of Bowie
Just the diversity of the tracks! 2 discs that show why Bowie was and is such an influential musician. For "absolute beginners", it's a fantastic start. But even if you have everything this is a nice collection to own.
5. Journey - Greatest Hits
Great sampler, but also great for fans to have on hand for those moments you feel like belting out songs like "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Any Way You Want It". Wonderful from start to finish.
