I love this community hardcore and spend a lot of time there. Recommend it to you too if you like to dance a little bit on the creepy side of things! A user posted this survey to the community and I can't resist 'em. So here are my answers, tucked away under the cut.

1.) Would you say that you are easily scared? List your fear level on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being a MAJOR scaredy cat!

Let's see... I'm somewhere in the middle of the scale. I don't jump at my own shadow, but sometimes I can get even to where I creep myself out.

2.) What are the three things that scare you the most?

a.) Clowns. Not so much pictures or seeing them in movies or something, though I will shudder and my stomach will clench. I will however panic if one is in front of me in person. You'll see me getting as far away as fast as I possibly can. One freaked me out at the circus when I was little and I've feared and loathed them ever since.

b.) Malevolent entities, possession, demons. Thank watching The Exorcist at a far too young age to have probably done so for that. It's the reason I won't touch a Ouija board with a ten foot pole (Paranormal Activity cemented that for me even) or even think about holding or attending a seance or anything where you "summon" something or COULD "summon" something. I don't want to open doors for anything that might not be.... good to be able to come through.

c.) Dying completely alone.

3.) Have you ever seen a ghost? And if so, were you frightened?

See, ghosts... they are people who've passed on and are now lingering in spirit only. They are as good or bad, as "scary" as the people they are / once were. I wouldn't be frightened unless the spirit gave me a reason to feel that way. That said, no, I haven't ever seen one. I've had experiences where there has been some "activity" but that's all I've seen and heard, never had a spirit manifested in front of my eyes, the classic "ghost", if you will.

4.) What are the top 3 scariest movies that you have ever seen?

a.) The Exorcist. I mentioned above that I was probably far too young the first time I watched it to have done so. The demon's voice still gets to me even now.

b.) A Nightmare on Elm Street. When it first came out, before the franchise and the character of Freddy Krueger became a parody of itself. I didn't sleep at all for a couple of days. What sticks out in my mind is this scene:

c.) The Innocents was really fantastic. The atmosphere is what really makes the movie. Based on James' The Turn of the Screw. Later, another movie would be just as good along these same lines, The Others.

You can add to that Rosemary's Baby and Night of the Living Dead.

5.) What are the top 3 scariest books that you have ever read?

a.) Lovecraft and Poe. Anything of theirs.I have their individual collected works.
b.) Too much of Stephen King's work (both short stories and novels) to just pick one or two... he's a master.
c.) The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

You could add several more here too, I'm an avid reader, but I'll just stick with these for now.

6.) Out of the following, which one do you think has the highest scare factor: Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, The Wolfman, The Mummy or none of them?

Hmmm... I love all those classic monsters. Let's see... I'd probably have to choose Frankenstein's Monster of these. I'm going by Mary Shelley's work here, not the movies.

7.) Which one of the following acts of Nature scare you the most: Tornados, Hurricanes, Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Lightning Storms, Blizzards?

I've been through more than one hurricane, seen tornadoes first hand, experienced blizzards and lightning storms. Have yet to see a volcano or experience an earthquake. But out of those I've experienced and seen, I'll have to say tornadoes scare me the most. They're just so random.

8.) Lots Of Gore - or - Subtle, Psychological Scares? Which is the *bigger* scare for you?

I'm more about the psychological, subtle scares. It's what you do NOT see sometimes that's the scariest thing.
I guess this is why I've never been really that into major gore in a movie. Messing with the mind is far more scary.

9.) What do you think is the scariest way to die is?

As I said in my first answer, it scares me to think about dying completely alone. I don't know why but just the thought of it being a possibility...

10.) Would you ever spend the entire night - by yourself - in a house that was reported to be "authentically" haunted?

Sure!

11.) Do you get scared when you visit staged Haunted Houses - that you pay admission for?

Yes. I love going up to Tampa and Busch Gardens for "Howl-O-Scream". And they have some pretty damned intense houses each year, they're very VERY good.

12.) Do you *enjoy* getting the boo-boo-gee-bees scared out of you?

Yes, I think that's what attracts us to horror in the first place. Be it going to a scary movie, reading a scary book, telling scary stories by firelight, being curious about the paranormal. It's that feeling, that rush, the built up tension. You can get the same adrenaline rush, that heart pounding, tense feeling in a safer way sitting in a movie theater or reading a book as you can by some other extreme sport or more dangerous thing. I think it's psychologically deeper than that, too.

13.) Which scares you more: a really scary book - or - a really scary movie?

I'll go with a really scary book. Because the movie screen of my mind as I'm conjuring images through reading the passages can be scarier sometimes than someone else's vision and interpretation on the actual movie screen.

14.) Does the thought of aliens scare you? Have you ever had a close encounter?

I don't know. I have always thought we'd be very naïve to think that in this entire vast universe we were the only life, the only living planet. I've never seen anything, or had a close encounter but I don't discredit it or rule out that it can and does happen. I guess you could say "I want to believe".

15.) Are you afraid of bugs? If so, what is the bug that absolutely creeps you out the most?

It really depends on the insect. If it's really big, hideous looking, and well... just SCARY period, I will just get the heebie jeebies. LOL! I can't stand cockroaches. And millipedes / centipedes... some spiders. There are some BEAUTIFUL specimens though, so no bugs in GENERAL don't scare me.

16.) If you had a choice, and you HAD to pick one of the following; would you rather be: a.) Eaten alive, b.) Burned alive or c.) Buried alive?

Oh, man! Um... wow. Let's see. None sound pleasant at all. Burned I guess? Only because it happens faster. I would hate the idea of being eaten and I've got a bit of claustrophobia so buried sounds horrific.

17.) What is the grossest, scariest thing you have ever eaten (or drank)?

I haven't eaten anything scarier than some calamari, really. LOL

18.) Have you ever visited a graveyard at night? And if so, have you ever laid down upon one of the graves?

Yes I have, and no I haven't.

19.) Do Ouija boards scare you?

Again as I mentioned in my first answer, they do. Only because they're a door in for something not so good to come through. I don't like messing with what shouldn't be messed with.

20.) Abandoned Haunted House - or - Abandoned Insane Asylum... which one is scarier?

Oh old asylums freak me out. Just thinking about what could have happened to those people behind those walls.

21.) Do you enjoy scaring others?

Sure. It's been done to me, and I WILL reciprocate. *evil grin*

22.) What is the best scary prank you have pulled on someone?

I haven't done, myself. But my aunt told me about a funny / good one she pulled. When her girls were younger, they loved "Are You Afraid of the Dark", that series on Nickelodeon. There was one that scared them, with a crazy grinning guy foaming at the mouth I think? Well, my aunt went into the bathroom, took a little Crest blue gel toothpaste, foamed it up a little in her mouth and went in to them and just... grinned. Scared them shitless. LOL!

23.) Have you ever seen an actual dead body; firsthand - and not including at funerals?

No I haven't.

24.) Is there any music that creeps you out? If so, what is it?

Hmm... I kind of get a creepy feeling when I hear something that's disjointed or discordant. And music box music. Makes me uneasy. As far as other music goes... songs? Revolution 9 by the Beatles. Kim by Eminem. Frankie Teardrop by Suicide. DOA by Bloodrock. I've mentioned others on this blog before too, so I won't go into more.

25.) Is there any piece of art that creeps you out? If so, what is it?

This one, Saturn Devouring One Of His Children by Francisco Goya.

As a kid, I was both fascinated and horrified by it.

26.) What creature do you think is the scariest of all? (No make-believe creatures please).

The Star Nosed Mole. I... will spare you a photo here. If you dare Google it. *shudder, shudder*

27.) Do you think that you could ever stand by and watch a mortician prepare a body for burial without getting scared, creeped out or physically sick?

I think I can. I watch enough of those autopsy type shows on TV and things on Discovery Health so I could handle it alright. I THINK.

28.) Do you have many nightmares? If so, what would you say is your worst one?

It's rare that I have nightmares and I really can't remember any of them!

29.) Do dolls, puppets or clowns scare you?

As I said above, clowns. But not so much photos or seeing them in the movies or on TV, it's in person. And dolls don't scare me really.

30.) And finally.... what is the best scary story of something that has happened to you?

I really don't have anything to share that exciting. Just noises and lights going on and off unexplained before, in our old place where I grew up. I never thought anything of it though, it never really scared me.

There you have it. :) Do it in your own journal if you want!
