I don't understand how Zero Dark Thirty got an Oscar nomination not to mention the Golden Globe nominations it got (though ♥ Jessica Chastain, who won Best Actress Drama) for best picture, because... no. I want my 2 1/2 hours back, damn it. Sorry, I know, I know... BUT IT HAPPENED! BUT THIS IS WHAT WE DID! Blah blah... bleh.

Argo was better. It was watchable, I was engaged. It was tense and exciting. It had realistic attention to detail. I thought Ben Affleck was excellent, both as actor and director. Best picture? It's got a tremendous chance here. It took the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama, as did Affleck for direction. Affleck was left out of the running for Best Director at the Academy Awards and I think that's a shame.

I'd love to see Ang Lee get the Best Director award for Life of Pi. I did a bunch of movie watching over the past couple of days, and this was a well done movie. As one who loved the book, I was very happy with the film. Best Picture? Pi and Argo are the two I think are going to battle it out for that.

Silver Linings Playbook I liked. Good ensemble and excellent performances. Where Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence both won Golden Globes (Jen's is the only one SLP won of its Globe noms) it was in the same category different genres. Drama and Comedy, natch. They're up against each other at the Oscars, so I don't see Lawrence grabbing that one. I think they'll give it to Chastain.

Seeing as Daniel Day Lewis got the Golden Globe for Lincoln makes me think he'll be a force to be reckoned with at the Oscars. Though again, as with Lawrence and Chastain, you have Hugh Jackman nominated for Les Miserables. Both he and DDL won at the Globes (Drama and Comedy/Musical natch) but are up against each other here. I want to see Joaquin Phoenix get this for The Master though I think Daniel Day Lewis will take it.

As far as the supporting actor awards go. I love me some Philip Seymour Hoffman. He's awesome in anything. But this is I think a three way between him, Christoph Waltz and DeNiro. Tough category. Waltz got the Golden Globe though, so I think that will make him more of a force to be reckoned with here.

As I've mentioned, I think Anne Hathaway is the one to beat for best supporting actress. She's already got the Golden Globe, too. GO Anne.

Not really invested in the Animated Feature category, I don't do too many of those. I think it might be between Brave and Wreck-It-Ralph. I hear people talking about those two the most, third being ParaNorman.

And of course Skyfall will get best original song.... GO ADELE! Her Globes win just cements that for me. Hoping that she performs the song at the Oscars. I want to see Alexandre Desplat get the Oscar for best score, though Mychael Dana's Life of Pi score got the Golden Globe and that's an equally great score. We'll see there.

I have to see Django Unchained yet, and have that planned for tonight. Also need to see Beasts of the Southern Wild. Haven't seen Amour, don't know if I really need to? Anyone seen it and think it might be worth my while?

In other news I took a break in my Oscar movie watching and watched Pitch Perfect. I loved it! It was a cute movie.
