Okay so usually I do "Halloween Month Movie A Night". But schedules being what they are, I might not get to watch EVERY night. I do, however, come bearing recommendations. So here they are, enough to keep you fellow creepies like me happy the entire month. I have included whether they're streaming by (P) (N) or (H), Prime, Netflix, Hulu respectively. There's also Shudder, which I don't subscribe to (maybe should) so if it's available there, I'll include (S) for those that do subscribe. If not on those services, a trip to Amazon might bring them up for an affordable rental.
The Houses October Built (H)
The Houses October Built 2 (H)
Psycho (1960) They remade this frame for frame starring Anne Heche and Vince Vaughan but don't bother when you have Hitchcock's classic at your disposal.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Descent
Halloween (S) Tradition. I watch this every Halloween night.
Scream
The VVitch Some people thought this too subtle for them but give it a chance.
An American Werewolf In London The greatest transformation scene ever.
The Blair Witch Project (H) Still a classic in the "found footage" genre. Scary as hell.
Suspiria
The Babadook
Get Out Chilling, with a sprinkling of humor. Resonant social commentary.
It Follows (N)
Hereditary (P)
Night of the Living Dead I think this is still public domain? I was able to watch on You Tube even.
The Shining Stephen King was not a fan. But as a stand alone horror film it's a work of art.
The Exorcist
IT I recommend the miniseries, but the movie was great, and I'm excited for part 2!
Drag Me To Hell
Children of the Corn (H)
The Omen
The Others (H) Quiet and atmospheric. I loved this one.
The Ring The sequel, Rings, is on Hulu. But watch the first one and I also recommend Ringu, the Japanese original.
The Cabin In The Woods
Candyman A great take on the Bloody Mary urban legend.
The Strangers I made the mistake of watching this while home alone. Never again.
The Silence of the Lambs Grab a nice chianti and settle in.
You're Next
The Conjuring (N)
The Amityville Horror
Shaun of the Dead and alternately Zombieland.
Suspiria
Rosemary's Baby A classic I go back to time and again.
Freaks
Nosferatu
Eyes Without A Face
28 Days Later (H)
The Haunting
Don't Look Now
When A Stranger Calls I made the mistake of watching this one back when I was babysitting. Yeah, good call.
The Night of the Hunter. Dark, atmospheric and excellently acted.
mother! (H)(P) Not for everyone.
It's also a given that I'll have my Universal Monsters on rotation. Drac, Frank and his Bride, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Wolf Man and etc.
You also can't go wrong with anything starring Mr. Vincent Price. His "Poe" films are great, so just take your pick. My fave is Masque of the Red Death.
Was I the only one who thought that Paranormal Activity (P) (H) was all hype? Yes the ending where Katie... you know... I won't spoil you but... was scary but yeah, it was merely okay to me.
Got any recommendations? Let me have 'em!
