As usual I'll be glued (well as much as I can be) to the Twilight Zone Marathon on Sci-Fi. It's my tradition and I look forward to it every year. I will actually be off on New Year's Eve so I'll be able to see a bunch. I have to work New Year's Day till 4pm though so I'll be doing some taping of eps I don't have already.

Schedule for December 31

Highlights for me:

A Penny For Your Thoughts (8:30am)
Nightmare As A Child (1:30pm)
I Sing The Body Electric (4pm)
Where Is Everybody? (6pm)
Time Enough At Last (11pm) (MUST always catch this one, even though I have it on my DVD set!!)
Last Stop At Willoughby (1am)

Schedule for January 1

Highlights for me:

The Dummy (9am) *need to tape*
Nothing In The Dark (2:30pm) (no need to tape this, it's on my DVD set)
It's A Good Life (3pm) (no need to tape this, it's on my DVD set)
Midnight Sun (4pm)
Living Doll (4:30pm)
Miniature (5pm)
In The Praise of Pip (6:30pm) (Jack Klugman is brilliant in this! BRILLIANT.)
Eye of the Beholder (7pm) (one of those that they must show every single marathon without fail)
Number Twelve Looks Just Like You (7:30pm)
Night of the Meek (8:30pm) (Art Carney is completely wonderful in this one)
Nightmare at 20,000 Feet (11pm) (another that is shown every single marathon without fail)
The Masks (12am)

I'll be tuning in and out here and there New Years Eve. It's a bunch that day that I have on tape or on DVD already so I'm not really missing much, but will have it on during my favorites above anyway. The rest of the time I'm doing my other tradition that I adore which is watching Marx Brothers movies. After I watch the original Oceans Eleven (Rat Pack FTW!!)

I'll be sticking close to home as usual. I'm not much of a party girl any more, and New Years Eve is not when I like being out and on the road. I'd rather be cozy and comfy with some hors d'oeuvres, chilled bubbly and my TV watchin'. Yay!!! I'm a boring geek, I know. LOL!!

What are your plans for the upcoming party night?

Hopefully 2008 will be a lot better since 2007 was all kinds of suck for so many of us.

My goodness, it's November already! Where has this year gone? I can't believe it's time to start thinking about the holidays! I will be deciding what goes on my Christmas playlist and get that updated.

In other news:

Going to see Wicked when it comes to the Broward Center in Ft. Lauderdale!! I can't wait. I wanted to see that forever but never had the opportunity. Tickets go on sale December 9 at noon. Woot!
hippie_chick: (Default)
Tropical Storm Noel is being felt here. Not the heaviest rains, those are over the Bahamas, but it's rainy and quite windy. We're in for a bumpy day or two. Nothing like squeezing one in at the very last second of Hurricane Season, eh? LOL!

Just got the pumpkin carved. Here he is!

And almost forgot it's Tuesday!!

Tuesday Tunes @ The Music Memoirs
Trick Or Treat!

What's your favorite "Sweet" song?
Dunno. Um... "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow? Or "Sugar Sugar" by The Archies. Either one.

You want to scare someone, what song do you play?
I'd just put on Pink Floyd's "Ummagumma" and turn the lights down. That would do the trick I think... it's good and creepy. "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" especially.

What's the song you associate most with Halloween?
Probably "Monster Mash". I know, I know, an old chestnut, but you know you hear it umpteen times every year, right?

What band makes the spookiest music?
Marilyn Manson can come up with some sufficiently spooky sounds and looks. Or there's Black Sabbath / Ozzy with their dark leanings.

What's the best scary soundtrack?
The "Halloween" movie soundtrack is great.

Cool. I love Halloween!

Mmmmmm.

I'm currently burning the two wick jar version of Yankee Candle's Autumn Leaves.

It's quite lovely. But with those notes, how come I'm getting "Christmas Tree Smell"? Must be the juniper. Yeah. Still lovely. I've got a Granny Smith from Yankee burning at the same time so it's all kindsa autumn up in here.

Six years.

Six years. Can it have been that long?

It was a beautiful morning, both here in Florida and in New York City. Pristine blue sky. I remember punching in at work at 8am and going about starting my routine. I was at Walgreens at the time and it was order day so I was in the office preparing to do that. Just after the first plane hit, our front end cashier and always a very sweet, up beat woman, came to the office and announced what a customer had just told her. A plane has gone into the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. She was visibly upset, and I'd never seen her like that before.

Then a grim silence came over us as what she'd just told us sunk in. I thought no, maybe the customer... or even our cashier... was mistaken. My manager goes for a radio immediately, and the gravity of the situation settled in as we listened. Another plane, this one goes into the second Tower. God help us all.

Then two more hijacked planes. The Pentagon. Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The rest of the day was surreal. The customers we had were quiet... somber. We all were. We went about our day at work though it really felt only like going through the motions, honestly. I just wanted to be home, hug my family close and turn on the TV.

Once I was home from my shift and saw the first images of what I'd been listening to all day I burst out in tears. I was horrified. Numb. It couldn't be real. It couldn't. But it was. Our world changed forever that day.

I won't forget.

"I remember saying something like 'I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive.' Suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us. And the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car. And a voice was screaming 'Holy Jesus what are these goddamn animals?!' No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. The poor bastard'll see them soon enough. Fucking pigs! Swine!'"

Just because we watched this last night.

Update on my Veiled Chameleon by the way. We got a brick of Eco-Earth, and made her a nice place to dig. She has dug. A quite nice hole. Now what? LOL!
hippie_chick: (Osmonds!)
The official video for the new song from "Memory Almost Full", "Dance Tonight". Mandolin! I love the postman. Sitting down for a cuppa and Paul starts playing... his expression is all WTF?! Haha!! The song's good. Sweet, and catchy. I was tapping my toes. But the video. It's kinda trippy! And ♥ Natalie Portman!

And in other news I'll be going to THIS in August. Yes, it's all seven performing Osmonds on stage together at one time, performing. This is after how many years? OMG. This likely will not be happening again, and it's a really important career milestone, the family being in show business 50 years this year. Big party. Watch for me, the special being taped will air on PBS. I'll be the one flailing and clinging to Donny's leg. Bwahahahahahaha!!! Naw, I keed. I KEEEEED.

Breaking out my Osmonds icon for this post.

But yeah, excited. Wheee!!!

Dear Boca customers:

I am in public service. That is my job. That does not, however make me your servant. Big difference there.

No love and a flaming bag of poo,

Me.
hippie_chick: (hippie sign)
Sorry for the lack of substantial posts lately but honestly nothing has been going on with me that is writing it down worthy. Well to write down here anyway. That wouldn't bore you senseless. I always keep my paper journals pretty well. But things are good. Busy but good. Work mostly. I've been attempting to get my air transport to Vegas in March settled.

But WTF at those prices?!?! $500 - $600 just to GET there? That's insane. And the $250 flights, both on Orbitz and Travelocity had me coming back the next DAY from when I wanted to. I looked at return for Monday, and gives me 11pm departures and all via Los Angeles. WTF?! You mean to tell me there are no reasonably priced DAYTIME flights? That can't be. Does anyone know of anything else I can try to make this more reasonable?

And "Love" tickets for then are secured. I will be going Friday March 16 and sitting in section 102 close to the stage area with some friends. I can't wait!! I'll end up having to book it a tiny bit early from that night's Donny show but 'tis more than okay.

I just have to GET to Vegas! GRRRR ::glares at the airlines and their stupid pricing::

And lastly a meme I thought looked fun. I'd done this one before but not this random shuffle version. It could bring the LULZ or at least mildly amuse so I think I'll try it out.

A day in the life... )

Haha! I don't think that turned out all that badly! And I swear I didn't cheat, just typed the songs in as they appeared.

Mom finally relinquished the current copy of TIME (week ending Jan 1) . And well, what do you know? I'm it's Person of the Year!

Oh wait. I'm not the only one. You are, too! And you, and you, and oh yes, YOU, too! Basically all of us. Bloggers, YouTube fanatics, Wikipedia editors...

Well, the two turtles are now gone. They've gone to a very nice turtle pond where they'll be taken extremely good care of, and be lots happier. They were getting too big and just getting too much upkeep, they got so filthy they were needing two times a week thorough cleaning. Just too much. They will be much much happier here.

We replaced their tank with reptile housing and are now the proud owners of a Veiled Chameleon. Her name is Margarita and she's rather cute. She's not as much upkeep, just give her her crickets once a day and she's set. We even have a "cricket house" where we "gut load" them, give them special food that ups their vitamin and nutrient quotient so that it benefits the chameleon when it eats them. Not too hard, or bad at all.

She gets a little bit of vegetation too, some mustard greens and a little apple. We mist her environment twice a day to create humidity in there which is how she gets her water.

I'll post a picture of her a bit later. I haven't taken one yet. She's acclimating herself to her new space so we're letting her go at her own pace. She is doing just great.
hippie_chick: (Default)
And all through CVS...

Okay enough of that. It's been cool at work. For the most part the customers we're getting are being alright. For it being so down to the wire, and everyone tired of lines, and crowds and thus can get a little frustrated and irritable. Though I do get an impatient one or two. And photo is humming. Still making Christmas cards, though goodness knows it's too late to send them now unless it's okay they get there late.

They are buying gift wrap. Bows. Any ornaments and ornament hooks that are left. There are no pantukahs, no fizzle fuzz, and barely no wuzzle wuzz to be had, little Whos.

Last midnight for me. We go back to normal hours after Saturday night. I'm working till 6:30 tomorrow and have the WEEKEND OFF!! Hooray! Saturday is baking day. Four kinds of cookies, and some home made brownies, not from a box. Mmmmm. I will work Monday, but don't have the schedule yet. Hopefully in the afternoon so I can enjoy breakfast with the family but I told him I'd defer of course to anyone who wanted to be home in the morning for kids and whatnot. Doesn't bother me. So I work in the morning in that case and get home even earlier than 8 pm. Then we'll have a nice dinner together whenever I do get home.

And I'm so happy that someone was able to get this entire thing up on YouTube at a little over twenty-five minutes, before the 10 minute length standards were put in place!

** Christmas shopping.... DONE. Mom and I just got home from the mall. Got the rest in one fell swoop between three stores, Sephora, Old Navy and Williams-Sonoma. Whew! Now I can use the pre Christmas week to prepare the baking and clean a bit.

To bake:

Brownies
Sugar Cookies (or Snickerdoodles haven't decided)
Holly Crackles
Ginger Spice Cookies
Nieman Marcus Cookie (a wonderful chocolate chip)

** I couldn't help myself. I got a sample of Vera Wang's new fragrance Princess with my Nordstrom bill and fell in lust immediately. So I bought a bottle today. I feel like such a traitor. LOL!! But BPAL is still my main love, yo. *snuggles BPAL*

** Bath and Body Works, yo. Bought the most scrumptious Pink Buttercream Frosting candle. YUM. Feel like I could eat it it's that yummy. And some shower gels and hand soaps since I needed to re stock.

** Wasabi Peas as well as some White Chocolate and Macadamia Nut Moose Munch from Harry & David. My Christmas indulgences. Well other than the bag of Hershey's Candy Cane Kisses I bought the other day. LOL!

** Thank you [livejournal.com profile] prettyh! I started the book last night and though I wanted to close my eyes and sleep I had to keep reading!!

And with that outburst, I retire to relax and start wrapping presents.

This Florida girl is freezing her ass off.

No, seriously. Look! *glances at handy dandy Weather Underground widget*

Currently 46°!

ARGH. Yeah, I know, I'm a wuss. LOL!

And the forecast in NYC tomorrow on parade day? Rain. Chilly. I hope that the participants and observers don't have too much awfulness to deal with. I love the Macy parade!

Going to Jan's tomorrow, and feasting with the family. I can't wait, it's my favorite meal of the year. Good food, good conversation, family, and fun.

And I've started Christmas shopping! I got my aunt, and a "Secret Santa" for a friend of mine, so I'm on my way. I'll be working on "Black Friday" but it's usually a fast paced day so moves quickly... I don't mind it. Just hoping the customers are pleasant enough.

The song I'm listening to is gorgeous. We did it in Choir in church around the time this CD (Christmas at Home) was released and there are like sixteen parts, quite intricate as written, and done correctly just the sound of the thing gives you goosebumps. One of my favorite Christmas pieces to be sure. To hear and to sing.

Today I'm gonna clean up around here a touch, and start organizing my CD collection I think. It's all over the place and so large I am having a hard time finding everything easily. Daunting task but needs to be done. LOL! I should actually make a master list of everything and have been meaning to but get lazy. Ha!

Anyway, off to get more coffee and toast with Nutella. Mmmmmm.

"I got a rock."

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of this classic, I found this and had to share.

Hey, Charlie Brown? Chin up, buddy. Rocks are actually kinda cool. Who woulda thunk that Pet Rocks would be all the rage later? You, my friend, are ahead of your time. And besides, if worse leads to worse, you could always throw them. At Lucy.

I'm thrilled someone You Tubed this in it's entirety, before the site implemented the 10 minute length standards. Enjoy it again. No Halloween, at least for me, is complete without it. And yay! It's available on DVD!

In other Halloweenie news... since I've been glutted with working closings I haven't had much time for any Halloween Month Movie A Night screenings. Since the last update I've seen:

Blair Witch Project (Yes, dammit! Awesome movie.)

An American Haunting (Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek are the ONLY good thing about this film. I was disappointed actually.) TRAILER HERE

Edmond (William H Macy is just... OMFG... SQUEE!!!! See iiiiit. NOW.) TRAILER HERE

And various and sundry Universal Monsters things as usual.

Annnd... 4:30 to 10 tonight. :( So doubtful any movie for this evening. It appears that we had a SECOND person quit so there are just three of us. THREE. OF. US. Besides the three management members. Hopefully we get a couple of good people hired. Soon.

BPAL: My White Moon, Mme Moriarty, Xanthe the Weeping Clown, Pumpkin Queen, Candy Butcher, and Creepy arrived!!! SQUEES!!! I got a tarot card. The Hermit.

"Represented by Virgo, the Hermit is a card of introspection, analysis and, well, virginity. This is not a time for socializing; the card indicates, instead, a desire for peace and solitude. Nor is it a time for action, discussion or decisions. It is a time to think, organize, ruminate, take stock. There may be feelings of frustration and discontent during this time of withdrawal. But such times lead to enlightenment, illumination, clarity.

In regards to people, the Hermit represents a wise, inspirational person, friend, teacher, therapist, someone the Querent usually sees alone, someone the rest of the Querent's friends and family may not know about. This a person who can shine a light on things that were previously mysterious and confusing. They will help the Querent find what it is they are seeking."
Source.

It's interesting that Beth threw this particular card in random because it really fits right now. Honestly. Hmmmm... Also got a couple more nifty CD trading cards, and stickers. Love the Alchemists Local 93 sticker. Very cool. And a few lovely frimps.

Okay, there are only five days remaining till All Hallows Eve. Off I go to look for the most sincere Pumpkin Patch I can find. And maybe a pumpkin to carve this weekend.

Take Me Back Tuesday @ The Music Memoirs

This week it's all about the blues.

Three songs.
1. I Believe I'll Dust My Broom - Robert Johnson.
2. Cross Road Blues - Robert Johnson.
3. Texas Flood - Stevie Ray Vaughan.
I have mp3 of these if you want any or all, comment.

Three artists.
1. Robert Johnson
2. Bessie Smith
3. Stevie Ray Vaughan

Three albums.
1. Texas Flood - Stevie Ray Vaughan
2. A Proper Introduction To Robert Johnson: Cross Road Blues
3. The Essential Bessie Smith

I'm sad not to have any Bessie to share with you. I'll have to grab my mom's CD again soon and rip a couple of things.

============================================

And in other news, I got the schedule of SUCK this week. I'm 10-6:30 today, off tomorrow and close. All. Weekend. Long. Feh. So much for making plans to go up to Orlando. *sigh*. Apparently one of the kids that had just started with us like a couple of weeks ago quit while I was in NYC. His mother pulled him out of there because they were giving him too many hours, it was causing too many problems with his school work. So yeah. A new girl started, so hopefully as soon as she's comfortable I won't have so many closings. I don't mind them, but when they constitute almost your entire schedule, like every week, it gets to be like wait a minute. No. But anyway...
hippie_chick: (Default)
For want of something mindless and amusing to watch on TV last night, I surfed around and landed on the "Flavor of Love" marathon on VH1 which led up to it's second season's finale. Now I never did see the first season. Some reason, Flavor Flav just... well... he's a little weird for me. He can be mildly amusing however. LOL! But. I got sucked in. Don't ask me how. But I did. I joined it in progress, just as New York came back (I guess she was the big drama queen from the first season) and man. Drama! Drama! Drama! Claws bared! Cat fights! Back biting! All to win the favors of Flavor Flav? OMG. I dozed off for about a half hour of it all.

I was amused though, and had to watch as the train wreck unfolded. I watched as verbal barbs were exchanged as well as bodily fluids (well between Flav and the lady of the moment anyway... *shudder*), meeting the parents (New York's mom? Well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...)and all kinds of other Jerry Springer Lite kinda fare. Culminating in two ladies left standing in a thunderstorm in Belize, one to be sent home, one to be Flav's "lady" . The winner last night? Deelishis... Delicious... however she spells it beat out New York. LOL! New York was mightily pissed having been spurned yet a second time by "her man".

GO HERE to see highlights, including New York's big thong baring exit!

Now I'm understanding that in production is New York's very own show "Flavorette"? Oh man. OH man. *shakes head* She's a piece of work that one, this should actually be amusing.

Celebrity Fit Club has finished, and Tina Yothers came out the biggest weight loser. I liked her. And I'm glad she did so well. I had actually been following the show for Tina as well as Carnie Wilson. Good stuff this season.

As well, a new season of Hogan Knows Best starts. Moved down to Miami so there is a new house. Breaking Bonaduce is back, and that of course I won't miss... talk about train wrecks.

Another one that looks interesting is "Celebrity Paranormal Project". Yeah they have "celebs" stay the night in an uber haunted place. Could end up sucking royally and we know these shows tend to be fake for drama and interest, but I'll give it a shot.

And there's "Ice T's Rap School" which just looks to be a hip-hop version of "Gene Simmons' Rock School". Could make for some amusement though.

Yes, I'm addicted. Dammit!

What was up with everyone today though? Rush rush rush, impatient, impatient, impatient! Sheesh! Guy gives me a pack of tiny halogen bulbs. I ring them up. He *watches* me ring them up. I give him the total. He then says "Wait! Slow down, slow down! I'm *returning* those!" Well, dude, why did you just hand them to me and watch me ring them up? Yes, I suppose on top of being a cashier I have to be a mind reader as well. Who'd have thunk it? Idiot.

Anyway tomorrow I work 8-4 and then leave bright and early Wednesday morning for NYC. I can't wait! It's a really short one, two days, but I'll pack a lot into it I'm sure. At least I hope so. Donny did shows all weekend and hasn't missed any more but Friday's so I'm breathing a sigh of relief that he bounces back fast.

I have some laundry to get done then dinner to think about so I'm ending this for now. Later! ♥ I'm sipping on the nicest, butteriest chardonnay right now. Hit the spot.
hippie_chick: (Default)
Ah yes, it's the dreaded FRIDAY THE 13TH!! I do work today, but late. 4-10pm. Not horrible, but I hate closing. Feh. S'okay though.

I don't know what they did out in front of my building yesterday, but they've changed the lighting element within the light posts. Now instead of being the intensity of gaslights (just a tad brighter than that actually) they are almost like fluorescent. Football field bright. And even with my blinds closed it's... UGH... sorta bright in here. I'm one who likes it DARK in the room at night when trying to sleep. I'm just weird that way. Hopefully these lose intensity over a tiny bit of time.

I think someone's car was broken into in the garage a couple of weeks ago, so the uber bright light might have something to do with that maybe? But why can't they just improve the lighting within the garage itself instead? Hmmm.

Oh and LESS! THAN! A! WEEK! till I go to New York City for a short two day jaunt! *dances* Donny on Broadway! OMG yes. And I'll be meeting up with friends too so 'tis always good.

Halloween Month Movie A Night:

Have only gotten in two in this week, a Lon Chaney documentary and then Phantom of the Opera as well as The Mummy's Tomb. I haven't been able to get much TV/Movie watching in this past week.

Anyway be careful out there gang. Y'know... black cats, mirrors, whatnot. Yeah.

ETA:

OMFG!!! Just got back from donny.com . Donny is ill. Flu. He lost his voice last night, and didn't perform the second half of the show. He'd better get well by Wednesday. Seriously. This is no good. Debbie is with him, she got in yesterday, and I'm sure he has people around him taking care of him, and he's taking care of his voice, but I WANT HIM THERE FOR MY SHOWS!!!! Ugh.

And! I am in the process of downloading that Gizmo thingy to get LJ Talk. I'm the worlds worst at IMs... I never have them on. I hate them popping up when I'm working on something. LOL! But yeah, baaaahhhh... I have it anyway. *nods*

Stuff.

There hasn't been very much to say lately. Work. It's picking up the slightest bit. Sunday right as I was leaving... it wasn't that it was all that busy per se but I guess everyone that was in the store at that particular time decided they had to check out at once. And I was running some photos through the lab to get them done when promised, and clearing the work so there was none when I left.

People breathe heavy and sigh when they have to wait just one additional minute. We had a brand new person in running register for the first time too. And they have to ask you "don't you have any more help?" Yeah. I do, but I purposely don't call anyone just to annoy you. What do you think? Sheesh. LOL! You waited two minutes before you were rung up. We're working as quickly and as expediently as we possibly can. Where are you going on a Sunday afternoon anyway? Home to read the paper. Calm down. It only stresses us out more and I hate that. A little patience please.

Anyway, we're into October, and "Halloween Month Movie A Night"! Newcomers to my journal, all October long, my mom and I have a tradition of picking out one suspense / horror film a night (well at least we try to) to screen. Gets scarier as we get closer to Halloween, culminating in our final screening which is always "Halloween" on Oct 31.

October 1

Dracula (1931)
Thought we'd kick off the month with a classic. This is the ultimate, the role that Bela Lugosi was born to play. We have The Legacy Collection. Actually we have all of the Legacy DVDs for all the Universal Monsters, we've been collecting them bit by bit. I love watching it with the new score by Phillip Glass. This set contains Dracula, Dracula's Daughter, Son of Dracula, House of Dracula and a Spanish made version. Though it's Lugosi's version I really love, the Spanish one was really good technically for the time... atmospheric and the camera work was excellent. We enjoyed watching that one as well. Excellent stuff.

October 2

Skeleton Key (2005)

I watched this one last night myself, mom and dad watched something else on TV that they'd been wanting to. Anyway. This is like the second time I've seen it. It's got a really creepy vibe, and a heaviness to it probably because it takes place deep in the bayous of Louisiana. The house was fantastic.

The cast was excellent, particularly Gina Rowlands and John Hurt. And Peter Sarsgaard really shone in the big twist ending... he's so good. Kate Hudson. Well I love her anyway. :) Good story, and I found myself having to really pay attention to catch stuff. I caught more this viewing than I did the first. More suspense, this one, than true scares.
hippie_chick: (Default)
First of all... I almost freaked out. I installed some new updates from Microsoft automatically. I guess there's some new "Genuine Advantage" deal installed in this update because imagine my suprise when I look to find out that I'm not genuine? WHAT?! I've had this Dell for quite awhile, came pre installed with Windows. I don't believe that they would put a pirated copy of WinXP in here. Really.

But to be fair, I had to stop the update in the middle and log off for something. Figured I'd come back and finish it, and let it install. I did. Still got the not genuine balloon and message on the welcome screen. Then it said that my installs were complete and to restart. Okay. So I did, and now I'm not being told I'm not genuine. WHEW! Weird. ::glares at Windows::

Okay now my question. Those of you on wireless or in the know about wireless, answer me this. How come on occasion, do I show a connection and excellent signal and still get no internet? It's like it just drops the internet for some reason. Is it my end? Or the main router in the other room? I don't see anyplace on LinkSys where you would update the software. Or do I need to do something at NetGear's site (my adapter) and get drivers updated? I looked though and it looks like they're current. Just frustrating to drop the internet on me. I have to go back in the other room, unplug the power from the router, plug it back in and then I get on.

Oh computers. *sigh*
