You stink of fear...
Oct. 20th, 2002 06:27 pmJust got back from seeing "Red Dragon", and enjoyed it. I saw the original "Manhunter" as well as having read the book.
This followed the book *and* the original movie pretty closely yet more updated. :) I mean the fact alone that Lecter was made a much bigger part in this film than he was in the book or original movie tell you as much. Anyway.... here's my review.
First of all let me say I was disappointed in "Hannibal" because it veered away from the book in too many places for my taste, and I wasn't big on Julianne Moore in the part of Clarice Starling. I was so hoping Jodie Foster would have changed her mind on doing it. It was good, don't get me wrong, but not what I expected. So I went not really expecting to be completely impressed with "Red Dragon".
I was far more pleased with this third installment than I thought I would be. It was alot more like "Silence Of The Lambs" was though "Silence..." will always be my favorite.
I love Edward Norton's work, and he didn't disappoint me here. Ralph Fiennes was an excellent Dolarhyde, and he's a brilliant actor, but I loved Tom Noonan in "Manhunter", so I kept picturing him in my head. :) Anthony Hopkins is absolutely incredible again as Lecter and I can't ever picture anyone else in the part even though there was another Lecter before him, Brian Cox, in "Manhunter". :) :)
Philip Seymour Hoffman plays ill fated Tattler writer Freddie Lounds here... I love his stuff too. :)
I recommend reading the book, and picking up the original film at the video store before you see "Red Dragon".
I won't give any of it away because I hate spoilers.... and just in case you aren't familiar with it. :) If you want to see more , go to the Red Dragon movie website . It's very cool, and interactive. Have flash enabled if you visit though to get the most from it. :)
