Okay I made my vacation entry, now for my Oscar observations. Before I get on with the major winners and my thoughts on them, let me say I did like the set this year. It was really contemporary looking. I didn't care for some winners relegated to accepting their awards out in the audience. The point is the walk up there to the podium, and all that right? And to have all the nominees in some categories onstage in a group? No. Go back to the old school ways. It didn't make the show any longer, people, that was because of the long acceptance speeches. That was the only thing I'd change.

Best Actor: Jamie Foxx for "Ray". I have seen the movie, and thought he was quite brilliant. I was thrilled that he won, even if he did beat my Johnny. It was much deserved.

Best Actress: Hilary Swank for "Million Dollar Baby". No. Not for this film. When she won for "Boys Don't Cry" I was thrilled because she was so amazing in that and it was well deserved. I was holding out hope for Kate Winslet.

Supporting Actor: Morgan Freeman for "Million Dollar Baby". YAY! I was so happy for him! Would have been cool if Alan Alda won, but Morgan was a good choice there. He's so great.

Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett for "The Aviator". Yes, exactly who I pegged to win. No suprise there. She was fabulous.

Director: Clint Eastwood for "Million Dollar Baby". What?! No Martin Scorsese?! Bah humbug!!!!! Sorry Clint, but no.

Best Picture: "Million Dollar Baby". I would have pegged "Ray" for this one too.

"Born Into Brothels" got best documentary feature. I didn't think "Super Size Me" would win, even though I loved it. LOL!!

"The Incredibles" got animated feature which I figured it would.

"Prisoner of Azkaban" got no awards. I thought for sure it would ace the visual effects category but no, "Spider Man 2" got it. The academy picked Doc Ock over the Dementors? Are they insane? Guh. And as for Score, it would have been good for Azkaban to have won that too, but Neverland did.

Yay! Very happy that "The Sea Inside" won. I thought it would.

I really loved the song "Al Otro Lado Del Rio" from "The Motorcycle Diaries" and glad it won. It really was the only one of the bunch that was remotely exciting. Carlos and Antonio were good! And yeah, speaking of song nominees and performances, by the end of the evening I was suffering from a bit of Beyonce overload. And Counting Crows? Yuck.

Normally here, I'd talk about fashion. But nobody really made any real mistakes, there were no real disasters this time. Cate Blanchett looked stunning. I hear she had one of Kate Hepburn's gloves in her purse for luck. Seemed to have worked. Hilary Swank's gown was a pretty vintage looking number. Pretty much everyone was going vintage, in a nod to "The Aviator"... that 1930s / 1940s old Hollywood glamour look reigned. Leonardo DiCaprio had the ultimate accessory in Gisele... she was gorgeous! And Johnny. He rocked his tux. Yep.

All in all, it was ehm... alright. No oomph, no punch. No drama, no suprises. As [livejournal.com profile] ragdoll said, it was just... there. Chris Rock was quite apt in my opinion as a host. His opening fell flat in spots here and there but he really warmed up well. Yeah, that about describes it.
