hippie_chickTonight's Halloween Month Movie-A-Night: Carrie.
Starring Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, and Piper Laurie. When I first read the book by Stephen King, I was the same age as Carrie White was in the story. And going through a really difficult time in my teenage years. I was kind of a misfit at school myself, and though not to the degree Carrie was, singled out by my peers. It was for this reason that I could relate to her, and even though I wouldn't resort to murder myself, and in many ways different than she, I found I could also empathize with her.
The movie version was brilliant. The performances were top notch. Sissy has always been among my favorite actresses, she just puts so much of herself into every role. Her Carrie was haunting, sad, innocent, and freaky at the same time. This is the role that launched her career. Piper Laurie as Carrie's religious lunatic mother was a brilliant piece of work and one that should have won her the Oscar she was nominated for.
And the always amazing direction of Brian DePalma didn't hurt, either. Here, he's at the top of his game. Just a great cast, and a story that will stay with you. It's tense and suspenseful. The prom scene and Carrie's walk home after are quite frightening.

The Wolfman starring Lon Chaney Jr. Then we watched a brilliant documentary about his father, "Man Of A Thousand Faces", Lon Chaney.
