It's Christmas time, pretty baby...

Because I'm officially going to be starting the holiday shopping next weekend, I am taking this one to prepare the music that will accompany us on the trips around town to the mall and other places as the season progresses. To get us into the spirit of the holidays, I thought I'd also share this year's playlist with you readers. I have included everything here in a handy dandy zipped folder for your downloading pleasure. I've included what I hope is a good mix of the traditional with the contemporary. On to the songs.

1. White Christmas - Bing Crosby. What Yuletide mix is complete without it? Still tops the all time holiday favorites.
2. Christmas Time - Donny Osmond. His newest single. Please, if you like this, request it at Smooth Jazz and AC radio when they start playing their holiday music. If they tell you they don't have a copy of it let me know.
3. Christmas Time Is Here - Vince Guaraldi Trio (from A Charlie Brown Christmas). This is the instrumental. Beautiful.
4. All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey. Hearkens back to that 60s "girl group" sound. Catchy and fun.
5. Carol Of The Bells - Trans Siberian Orchestra. With Metallica. Awesome and powerful.
6. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting) - Nat "King" Cole. Another staple of holiday playlists at least as far as I'm concerned.
7. Santa Claus Is Back In Town - Elvis Presley. Just pure Elvis. Wonderful!
8. It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year - Andy Williams. I love Andy's pure, smooth voice.
9. What Child Is This - Vanessa Williams. Such a beautiful voice! Great jazzy version.
10. (There's No Place Like) Home For The Holidays - Perry Como. Another one of those voices that I just think is amazing.
11. Let It Snow - Dean Martin. Swingin'!
12. I'll Be Home For Christmas - Donny Osmond. Yes, him again. Donny's version of this is so hot it would melt the hardest packed winter snow.
13. A Marshmallow World - Dean Martin. A little fun with Dino. We all sing along with this one when it comes on.
14. Little Drummer Boy / Peace On Earth - Bing Crosby w/ David Bowie. Love. Love. Love.
15. Ave Maria - Sarah Brightman. GORGEOUS.
16. Coventry Carol - Kings College Choir - Had to put some choir music on, and this carol is one of my favorites.
17. Santa Baby - Eartha Kitt. Okay, let's lighten things up again. I was going to throw my Madonna version on here, but Eartha is the original, and always the best. Purrrrrrrrrr.
18. Auld Lang Syne - Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Let's toast to the new year. Hope it's a good one!
The Songs. (.zip file, 57.30 MB via MegaUpload) If MegaUpload is being a headache for you, drop me a note and let me know and we can try it via YouSendIt. I just wanted to keep track of how many downloads this gets, and YouSendIt doesn't show that data.

Date: 2005-11-14 06:51 am (UTC)To me, it's just not quite the Christmas season if I haven't heard "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" at least once on the radio and haven't heard "Last Christmas (I Gave You My Heart)" by George Michael on WAG-radio!
I also like the Dr. Demento song "The Pretty Little Dolly" once in a while as well as Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" which I first heard way back when I was in 6th grade (a long-ass 21 years ago).
I was out garage sale-ing one summer and found the FULL CASSETTE album of Elmo & Patsy for a quarter...for that cheap price, I couldn't resist having some TRULY tacky holiday music among the 700+ titles in my music library.
Wasn't there also a version of "Santa Baby" by Marilyn Monroe?
