My dad's new computer has the capability of burning DVDs. I have some tapes here that I'd like to preserve, and transfer to DVD. I've never gone about doing this before, and really don't know where to start. I have an extra VCR... does it have to be attached to the TV or can a simple a/v in/out do?

Thanks for anyone who can get me pointed in the right direction.

You'll need an a/v in jack on the video card of the pc with the DVD burner. Video cards like ATI All-in-wonders usually do.

I broke down and bought a $250 machine at best buy that does one button vcr to dvd recording...love it. can dvd record tv as well. No way would I go back to the pain of video card/capture/translate crap that I did in the early days.

There you go!! I may invest in one of those! Sounds a heck of a lot easier... I'll look into it this weekend.
