Madonna and Guy Ritchie call it quits.

LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. pop singer Madonna and British film director Guy Ritchie have agreed to get divorced, the singer's spokeswoman in London said on Wednesday.

The announcement of the couple's decision to split ends months of speculation about their relationship.

"Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after 7-l/2 years of marriage," Madonna's representatives in New York and London said in a statement.

"They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time. A final settlement has not been agreed upon yet."

The couple have a son, Rocco, who was several months old on their wedding day in December 2000. In 2006 Madonna applied to adopt David Banda, a boy from Malawi whose mother died shortly after his birth. The adoption was approved by a court in Malawi in May.

Madonna also has a daughter, Lourdes, from an earlier relationship. She was married once before, to actor Sean Penn, in the 1980s.

Can't say as I haven't seen this one coming. They gave it a shot, though. I dig Madonna, but have always thought she'd be a very difficult person to be in a relationship with. Just gives off that vibe. But Guy seems like he'd be dead cool.

Speaking of Guy Ritchie, I kinda wanna see "Rock N Rolla". Looks pretty badass from the trailer.

What is totally weird is that I was just re-reading an article from the UK Elle from earlier this year and it she was talking about how they both go to bed with their Blackberries in hand doing things on them--her emailing and Guy playing games. And that she falls asleep with hers in hand. It just seemed to sound so... cold and impersonal.

If that isn't a sign of things to come, I don't know what is. Maybe it's just me, but when you go to bed with your significant other, that is you and them time. Was not surprised to see this come out.

I feel bad that they couldn't "Keep It Together" so to speak. I don't think I'd want to be married to Madge though. It has to be one huge ego to contend with, especially if you aren't that huge in your own career.

I hope things get handled well for the kids. Especially her store bought child.

Considering how long this has been rumoured to be happening, then denied, then rumoured again, it's hardly a shock. Madonna running back to NY with the kids, the stories about her and Ahole Rod, etc. were pretty much proof. I feel badly for Guy -- he married her and his career kind of went to hell in a handbasket. Here's hoping his Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law revives it (although his RocknRolla is supposed to be good).

I have never been a huge fan of Madge's, but even if I was, I can see how it would be hell to live with her. She's just a living, breathing ego, which is great for her and her career, awful for anyone else. I feel really bad for the kids too.
