I would hope that if someone is that sick, they'd just stay home. Work will be there, stay home, get yourself well, and don't come in and spread your germs and have more people needing to call in or come in sick.

I'd agree. Unfortunately where my sis works (a grocery store) you cannot call in sick without getting a point against you. 3 points in a quarter (or maybe 6 months) and you get a week suspension. When I waited tables we couldn't call in sick without calling fellow employees to find someone to cover our shift.

Yep, that's also where it gets tricky. I'm a keyholder, a management team member at my store, and it's really not easy to find someone to cover, to pinch hit for you.

I'm lucky in that there are no real web emergencies so no one needs to cover for me (and we get paid sick leave). It will be so difficult to work someplace else after 13 years with paid vacation and sick leave, and all the holidays we get off.
