I swear FOUR posts in a row just now on my Facebook newsfeed were cut and pasted hoax bullshit. I've unfollowed a couple of these people too because all they share are memes anyway.

PLEASE for the love of all that is good and holy CHECK THE VERACITY of it before just kneejerk cut and pasting it!! It takes mere seconds and will save everyone annoyance in the long run. Also by doing that you're helping it propagate. Also by sharing and liking that "WIN A FREE CRUISE!" or "WIN FREE FIRST CLASS AIRFARE!". Those are scams. They're like / share farming. When I mention to you it's a scam / hoax don't go "better safe than sorry" or "it can't hurt, right?" because yes it can. You are giving those pages just what they want. Traffic. Edgerank boosting. Don't. Please.

I know, people's lack of critical thinking skills and skepticism about weird online "news" or hoax stories are just ridiculous. I see so many of these fake Facebook privacy scare stories saying you need to post some faux Legalese as your status to prevent the privacy settings from taking effect, and I'm like, this same hoax literally goes around and gets debunked every year or so? And the "win a free cruise!" things are like the "Nigerian prince who wants to share his inheritance" scams - if something seems way too good to be true and is totally inconsistent with how the world works, why do you still think it might be true?
