It's upon us, the official 50th anniversary of the legendary Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

I still don't have my boxed set (getting that, getting that) but have listened on Spotify and the sound is glorious.

Behold.

The album was a major event, nothing to date sounded like it, and continues to cast its influence today. I still have my mom's original vinyl, though not worth much I don't think since the cover isn't in the best condition. Still, it's a treasure, and the album will instantly take me back to my childhood as any Beatles album will.

We've seen the iconic album cover. But of all those figures displayed, who was cut? Paul McCartney tells us!

Interview with Giles Martin.

From Rolling Stone: How a corn flakes ad inspired "Good Morning Good Morning".

From Rolling Stone: All about "Within You Without You".. I remember being fascinated by that sitar sound as a kid.

From Rolling Stone: How an old circus poster inspired "Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite!" .

Happy anniversary, Sgt. Pepper!

This bill, signed into law by Governor Pat McCrory (R) last month, requires that people use the public restrooms and showers of their biological sex rather than that of their preferred gender identification.

Ringo cancels his June 18 concert at the Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary, following the footsteps of Bruce Springsteen, who canceled an April 10 performance at Greensboro Colosseum.

“I’m sorry to disappoint my fans in the area, but we need to take a stand against this hatred,” Mr. Starr said in a statement. “Spread peace and love.”“How sad that they feel that this group of people cannot be defended,” he added.

Cyndi Lauper will play her June 4 date at Duke Energy Performing Arts Center in Raleigh, stating she'll donate all the proceeds to Equality North Carolina.

“The best way I know how to make a difference is what I have strived to do my whole life and that is show up for my family, friends, and fans in the L.G.B.T. community,” she said in a statement. “So, for that reason I think the best way I can do my part is to turn my show in Raleigh on June 4th into an entire day to build public support to repeal HB2.”

Justin Bieber and Beyoncé are due to play in NC soon, but neither artist has announced anything about the issue yet.

My Bonnie lies over the ocean...

Tony was an instrumental figure in the Beatles' rise to fame. The band became friends with Sheridan during their days playing in Hamburg. The band played on the single "My Bonnie", as well as "The Saints (When the Saints Go Marching In)" and a few more, credited as "The Beat Brothers". In the Beatles legend, a young man from Liverpool named Raymond Jones went in to NEMS, the record store owned and operated by Brian Epstein and his family, and requested "My Bonnie", which set in motion the chain of events that would bring Epstein and the Beatles together.

Robert Zemeckis Cancels Planned Yellow Submarine Remake

It had been cast, too. Peter Serafinowicz was cast to voice Paul McCartney, Dean Lennox Kelly as John Lennon, Cary Elwes as George Harrison and Adam Campbell as Ringo Starr. The Fab Four were slated to provide the motion-capture / performance of The Beatles. I'm kind of glad it's not going forward. I don't know, I just feel like it would have been horrible. The original always and forever. It was beautifully animated and a complete work of art.

Speaking of Cary Elwes though, I re watched "The Crush" the other night. Good movie. But I have to laugh every time he breaks his accent and you hear the British coming through. Particularly in scenes where he's angry or agitated. I don't know. Anyway.

Jeremy Hilary Boob, PHUD (PH.D) thanks you for your time.

LOL I was just looking at the "Paul Is Dead" tag on tumblr. As I've mentioned, it's my favorite urban legend. And it made me laugh how many people actually believe this crap. Granted I think these are young people just being introduced to the whole thing, but for real now. Come on. *shakes head* It's just silly. And they're SERIOUS about it, and everything!

In addendum to the last entry I made about PID, where I posted the documentary "Paul McCartney Really Is Dead: The Last Testament of George Harrison", it's on Netflix Instant and available to rent on Amazon Instant Video ($3.99) if you're morbidly interested in seeing it. As pointed out in that post, inaccuracies abound. But it's entertaining and gave me a giggle.

Woke up from a nap and am now watching some mindless, stupid new reality show based around Adrienne Bailon (I know her as Rob Kardashian's ex) and Julissa Bermudez (host, 106 & Park on BET) just because it's on. *shakes head*

Currently, Adrienne is getting Rob Kardashian's name lasered off her ass. She's talking about "burning flesh, I smelled it!" and etc. Yeah, like it's always a good idea to have a boyfriend's name tattooed on your body.

In other news, my shiny new iPhone arrives tomorrow. And a new and equally shiny protective case that's all pink and blingy. Yesssss.

And it would appear that Dhani Harrison got married to Icelandic ex-model Sólveig Káradóttir this weekend at Friar Park. Her gown was designed by Stella McCartney and both Ringo and Paul were in attendance. Awwww. :)

Just got back from Coral Springs and seeing Get Back! The Cast of Beatlemania. These guys never disappoint. They're here every year around this time and the place was rockin'... they pretty much sold it out. So good. Particularly "George", he has him down pat. Even "Ringo" had the little head shakes and mannerisms down, so cute. :) "John" is particularly good during the early "mop top era" stuff. He does a mean "Ballad of John and Yoko" though.

If you want to check out a few clips, they're a couple years old, but they're on You Tube, they have their own channel. Numbers change here and there too, they didn't do "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "When I'm 64" or "Norwegian Wood" for instance. We did get "Birthday" again... they like to ask the audience if anyone's having a birthday and dedicate it to them. They rock it!

Before the show we went over to the Blue Anchor Pub for some British fare. I had some delish bangers and mash. Washed it down with a Newcastle and we were good to go.

I've see a few Beatle tribute bands in my time, but these guys and Rain I think are my favorites. If you get a chance to, and you're a Beatlemaniac, go see 'em! It's an enjoyable evening.
hippie_chick: (Beatles / Let It Be?)
I'm listening to the remastered "Rubber Soul" at the moment. In particular, the song "The Word". Is it me or is there absolutely no "In the beginning, I misunderstood, but now I've got it, the word is good." as well as the "Everywhere I go I hear it said..." bits by John on here? The guitar part is there with no vocal. I have only just noticed this. I only have this album remastered, I still need to get the boxed set. As well as the Mono boxed set. Is this there in the monaural mix? I've only ever had the stereo mixes on my CDs and could have sworn it was all there on my original CD copy (not the remaster) as well, and it isn't!

Also! When listening to both my original CD and the remaster of "You Won't See Me", is Paul's vocal kinda buried and the instruments WAY prominent? I have to turn it up to hear his vocal! Just crappy mixing? The rest of the album seems just fine. Hmmmmmm.....

EDIT!
A quick configuration of my speakers from stereo to surround "found" that missing channel and now I hear it. I guess it needed to come through the speakers that were off. Hmmmm.

Watch full film here

I know this is all complete bullshit but I find the whole Paul Is Dead thing fascinating and have for a long time. It's my favorite urban legend. I posted this video to my Facebook as well, but wanted to make an entry to elaborate on it as I watch. :) Note: I think this was intended as kind of a "mockumentary" anyway.

Turn me on, dead man. )

This whole thing has been quite entertaining, actually. *munches popcorn*. I sometimes think it may make a cool movie, a dramatic interpretation instead of documentary thing. I dunno. :)
Sweet dreams!

Okay that's like asking a mother to pick a favorite child or something. I can't. There are too many that mean a lot to me, that have memories attached and that have been a part of my life. But here are some that I like quite a bit:

Good Day Sunshine - It's just happy, sappy and I loved dancing around the living room singing along to it as a child.

Day Tripper - I love the sound. The guitars on here are great!

In My Life - I can't think of anyone that this song doesn't touch.

I Saw Her Standing There - Just a great rocker, this one!
That count in! A-ONE TWO THREE FAW!!!

Hide Your Love Away - John is doing Dylan here. The line "feeling two foot small" is great.

Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) - The sitar! I remember when I heard this for the first time and thinking how exotic it sounded. And I've loved it ever since.

Because - The harmonies on here are soaring and beautiful.

Paperback Writer - The bass line Paul does on this is freaking awesome.
Good riffs here too.

Eleanor Rigby - This just gives me chills every single time.
Ahhh, look at all the lonely people... the string section...

Here Comes The Sun - Childhood memory attached to this one. Watching a full solar eclipse with my mom and brother, using the pinhole / piece of paper method, then when the sun came out from behind the moon's shadow putting this one on and singing along.

But again there are just so many, each song just makes me feel different
things and brings back certain times and places.

"Abbey Road, the London recording studios immortalised by the Beatles album of the same name, has been put on the market by EMI as the music group looks to extricate itself from the debt burden of Terra Firma’s 2007 leveraged buy-out."(read more here)...

I think it ought to be made a public landmark... you know. Leave Studio 2 as is, let people go in and stand where all that fantastic music and musical history was made. I know sometime back they did open it up to the public for what, like one day? And did a presentation etc. They should keep it up as such.

The rest could be made into a museum of sorts to store and showcase personal Beatles memorabilia! I'd just hate to see it all go away or be changed completely it's so iconic at this point.

We're playing those mind games together,
Pushing barriers, planting seeds,
Playing the mind guerilla,
Chanting the Mantra peace on earth,
We all been playing mind games forever,
Some kinda druid dudes lifting the veil.
Doing the mind guerilla,
Some call it the search for the grail,
Love is the answer and you know that for sure,
Love is flower you got to let it, you got to let it grow,
So keep on playing those mind games together,
Faith in the future outta the now,
You just can't beat on those mind guerillas,
Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind,
Yeah we're playing those mind games forever,
Projecting our images in space and in time,
Yes is the answer and you know that for sure,
Yes is the surrender you got to let it, you got to let it go,
So keep on playing those mind games together,
Doing the ritual dance in the sun,
Millions of mind guerrillas,
Putting their soul power to the karmic wheel,
Keep on playing those mind games forever,
Raising the spirit of peace and love, not war,
(I want you to make love, not war, I know you've heard it before)

Sunset doesn't last all evening
A mind can blow those clouds away
After all this, my love is up and must be leaving
It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
None of life's strings can last
So, I must be on my way
And face another day

“I think people who can truly live a life in music are telling the world, 'You can have my love, you can have my smiles. Forget the bad parts, you don't need them. Just take the music, the goodness, because it's the very best, and it's the part I give'”

We miss you George.

BRB busy playing.

But I'm playing like crap because I keep getting distracted by the gorgeous graphics. It's been so much fun! I'm in Quick Play mode and just choosing songs random right now. I will be doing this in full story (career) mode though. My arm hurts! LOL!

The big preview of Rock Band: Beatles was today, with Paul, Ringo, Olivia and Yoko in attendance. I think Dhani was there too? I wasn't really watching. BUT!!!

Gameplay trailer is UP!

*visions of spending WAY TOO MUCH TIME playing Beatles songs on this*

The controllers/instruments are hella sweet looking, adorable plastic replicas of the band's gear. And the song list of course is stellar. I'll get the game, and pray that my GH controllers will work and be compatible with an RB game. I'll have to worry about the controllers later. ACH MEIN GOTT this is expensive!

WHY DID WE NOT WAIT though?! We just got GH World Tour for Xmas, yep, entire bundle. Game, guitar, drumset, and mic. FML.

BRB, gonna go *flail!* some more.

To be released the same day as Rock Band: The Beatles, 9-9-09:

The entire original Beatles catalog has been digitally remastered, and more liner notes, photos, limited edition embedded documentaries with each album, etc added.

OMG. O M G!!

On one hand, I say to myself, sensibly, 'Polly, you already OWN all this music. Why do you want to pay a crap ton of money on music you already own?' then on the other hand...

I'm kinda... oh I dunno... SQUEEING MY PANTS OFF HERE?!

I've been waiting for them to do something like this!!

Read more about this here.

NOW does this mean the stuff will be on iTunes?!

Hell with it. MUST possess this. IT WILL BE MINE.
