This would have been a great blog entry a couple of months ago at Halloween, but anyway. LOL!

I've always been fascinated with the paranormal. And I've always loved shows like this where they send people in to a location to "investigate" paranormal activity and decide whether or not there is something to it. I would have to say before I continue that I'm a believer. I've experienced things in the past that have led me to the conclusion that yes, there is something to "hauntings".

I think along the lines that when we leave this earth, particularly in instances where the person was too young or came to their demise in a particularly violent manner, a "fingerprint", an energy if you will, is left behind. I don't know what explanation to give it other than I think that the energy can be strong enough in some instances to manifest itself, make itself shown in some way.

I've never "seen" a ghost, but there have been experiences I can't explain. One I remember is being little, like six or seven years old, and still in our first house in Indiana, the one I was brought home to after I was born and my childhood home. We weren't the first family to live in that house. It wasn't a large house by any means but comfortable. Average sized, three bedrooms one bath.

What I remember is being in my bed very late at night after it was quiet in the house and hearing things from the crawl space (attic like area) above. A distinct baby crying. And it wasn't my baby brother. It was far away and horrid sounding. And there would be bumping sounds and what sounded like walking. Then it would go away.

And at my Grandparent's home on the lake in Indiana, we were convinced we had the spirits of Indians there. Seriously. We found out that that development and the man dug lake there were put on an old Indian burial ground. There would be thumping and bumping that was unexplained and the lights on the cars in the carports would sometimes go on and off when nobody was out there and IN the cars to even do it. Grandma took to calling her spirits "Charlie Tecumseh". Something would happen that was weird and we'd all say "Hi there, Charlie!".

Anyway, so yes, I'm a believer and it led me to my fascination with the paranormal.

I've watched every one of these so far. There have been seven as of last night. A couple have been anticlimactic and really... not that exciting or as exciting as they could have been, but a couple have been pretty good.

They are given equipment and hand held cameras and left in the location from dusk til sunrise to detect and report on any paranormal activity. They take turns at different tasks going to various places in the location. At the end of each episode, they go to what they've determined to be the "heart of the haunting", or the place with the most activity, and the person who was shown to be most sensitive to the spirits, or having made some kind of contact is the "conduit" and they attempt to channel the spirit using a "token from it's past" and then do a banishing ceremony, supposedly to "release" the spirit and free them from their earthly bounds.

I like the locations they've been choosing... genuinely quite freak-out inducing. You wouldn't catch me alone at night in any one of them. To wit:

show plots and kindasorta reviews follow... )

Next week: "Dead Men Walking" in which we return to "The Walls" with Gretchen and Danny Bonaduce, Chris Knight and Adrianne Curry.

I'm hooked. Addicted.
