I've got some catching you up to do with Halloween Month Movie A Night so here's what I've seen since last time I posted it:

Oct 12
The Babadook

Oct 13
Oculus

Oct 14
The Houses October Built

Oct 15

No movie. We had a busy day so I just settled in for Halloweeny stuff on The Travel Channel

Tonight I'll put in May.

I'd seen this one once before, but not in quite a bit, and it's a pretty good, weird movie.

Interview With The Vampire.

Trick 'r Treat

Awesome anthology slasher. If you haven't seen it, what are you waiting for, it's the perfect time of year for it!

Rent on on Amazon Prime

The Stepford Wives

Based on the book by Ira Levin.

Not talking about the 2004, largely panned, remake starring Nicole Kidman. That was done more as a comedy. This 1975 film (became a cult classic) starring Katherine Ross and Paula Prentiss was lots more sinister despite the brightness and "cheeriness" of the look of it all. Save for the "dark stormy night" finale, it's all sunshine.

Something is not quite right with the women of the town of Stepford Connecticut. New to the idyllic suburb is Joanna Eberhart, her husband Walter and their children. Joanna soon finds out the secret of Stepford.

Since the book and movie, the term "Stepford Wife" has become a common one to describe any docile, submissive wife.

You can buy the DVD on Amazon but it is not available to stream.

Last night's pick was The Exorcist.

We have the extended director's cut version, including the crab walk down the stairs OMG.
Pulled it from our collection tonight. WAS on Netflix, removed on Oct 1 just in time for people NOT to stream during Halloween season. *shakes head*

You can rent it on Amazon though. The film got a one night re release in theaters on Sept 30 which no, I wasn't able to make it to.

Tonight we're doing a Universal Monsters probably The Mummy.

Burnt Offerings

Pretty solid haunted house chiller with a good cast. You've got Karen Black, Oliver Reed, Burgess Meredith and the great ladies Eileen Heckart and Bette Davis. Can't go wrong.

Oh and there was this guy:

The original Frankenstein, from our DVD collection of Universal Monsters films.

Oct 3

The Omen.

Damien, you're the devil, son.

Netflix
Buy on Amazon

Not available to stream on Amazon Prime, but the 2006 remake is. I prefer the original.

I'm looking at Would You Rather on Netflix and it looks interesting. However that main photo of an eyeball with a razor blade next to it gives me pause... like Un Chien Andalou pause. I don't do eye stuff too well. Has anyone seen that one and what can you tell me about it?

Also I have a recommendation tonight. Unfriended. It's well done, all unknown actors. The action all takes place on a teen girl's laptop, jumping between Skype, Facebook etc. It's one that I don't think will age well, so watch it now.

It's that time of year again! My tradition is to watch one horror / suspense / thriller movie a night the entire month of October until Halloween when I watch Halloween. You get to see what I'm viewing each day. This year I'll include links so you can stream or buy and watch yourself if you wish. Before I start, I'm on Netflix, and as of today, three good movies have been removed, bad timing with Halloween coming. The Exorcist, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Interview With The Vampire. BOOOOO HISSSSS, Netflix! Luckily I already own all three. You can rent them on Amazon Instant, though. Now let's get started.

October 1

Okay, to kick off my Halloween Month Movie A Night, we're watching The Fly. Not the 1986 remake with Jeff Goldblum, which is good, too, but a different movie. This is the original, from 1958, with Vincent Price and David (Al) Hedison.

Here it is, the last installment of my Halloween Month Movie A Night for another year.

October 27:

The Exorcist (1973)

This film still has moments that are completely frightening to me.

More this way! )

And today is Halloween! Tonight's movie will of course, by tradition, be "Halloween". I hope you enjoyed following along and I'll see you next year! Happy Halloween!

hippie_chick: (Halloween / black cat)
Yay! Catch up time! :D

October 21:

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

Lush, sexy, with great performances.

More this way. )

October 14:

Zombieland (2009)

Because zombies. And Jesse Eisenberg. And Woody Harrelson. And the Bill Murray scenes.

More movie goodness this way! )

That's it for now! We're getting closer to Halloween, folks!
hippie_chick: (Halloween / black cat)
Eep! Time to play a little catch up.

October 9:

The Shining (1980)

I just think this is completely well done. I know Stephen King has issues with it, and I understand what those are, but I treat this as a completely separate entity from the book.

The rest this way )

There you have it, all caught up! :)

October 7:

Carrie (1976)

The new version starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore is released on October 18. But I love the original. Sissy Spacek's performance was perfect. Both she and Piper Laurie were nominated for Academy Awards for their roles. It was a tough year that year in both Actress and Supporting Actress categories.

October 8:

Pontypool (2008)

I love me a good zombie movie. This one is excellent.

Both of these are available on Netflix Instant.

October 6:

White Zombie (1932)

This movie is considered the first feature length zombie film ever made. Bela Lugosi commands a zombie army.

October 4:

The Blair Witch Project (1999)

I thought the marketing of this movie was brilliant. I remember the original website!

October 5:

An American Werewolf In London (1981)

hippie_chick: (Halloween / glowing pumpkins)
Every October I try and watch one horror / suspense / thriller movie a night, culminating in a screening of Halloween on Halloween night. And in grand style, I've started.

October 1:

The Mummy (1932)

The original, starring Boris Karloff. Always good to incorporate the classic Universal Monsters in during the month.
My favorite:

Joseph: [translating inscription on box] "Death... eternal punishment... for... anyone... who... opens... this... casket. In the name... of Amon-Ra... the king of gods." Good heavens, what a terrible curse!
Ralph: [eagerly] Well, let's see what's inside!

Ralph: [after he reads the scroll from inside the box and the mummy comes to life] He went for a little walk! You should have seen his face!

October 2:

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

They're coming to get you, Barbara! This is in the public domain, and available on You Tube as well!
